Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Roughed up in return

Jansen (0-4) took the loss against the Cardinals on Monday, giving up two earned runs on three hits over one inning while striking out two with no walks in the Dodgers' 5-3 defeat.

The normally dominant right-hander put up an uncharacteristic stat line in his first appearance since his activation from the disabled list due to an irregular heartbeat, as he served up home runs to Jedd Gyorko and Matt Carpenter in the ninth inning and took his fourth loss of the season. This is a serious and unusual injury for an athlete to be dealing with, so it's hard to say exactly how much it may have impacted Jansen's performance. He will continue to close games for the Dodgers as long as he remains active.

Dodgers' JT Chargois: Dealing with neck discomfort

Chargois left Monday's game against the Cardinals with neck discomfort, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Chargois entered in the fifth inning, walked a batter and did not record an out before getting pulled. He got two swinging strikes before throwing four straight balls to Marcell Ozuna, so the injury likely happened during that at-bat. It is unclear when he will be able to return to action.

Dodgers' JT Chargois: Leaves with undisclosed injury

Chargois left Monday's game against the Cardinals with an undisclosed injury, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

He was visibly upset that the Dodgers elected to take him out of the game in the fifth inning. Chargois walked a batter and did not record an out before getting pulled. He got two swinging strikes before throwing four straight balls to walk Marcell Ozuna, so the injury likely happened during that at-bat.

  • Bryse Wilson RP | MIL

Braves' Bryse Wilson: Impressive in big-league debut

Wilson (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings Monday against the Pirates, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out five. He picked up the win.

Wilson was rewarded for an excellent minor-league season with a spot on the 40-man roster and a pre-September start in the majors. He is expected to be optioned back to Triple-A but will be back up in September. Mark Bowman of MLB.com said Wilson may make a few more big-league starts this season, but he could also be used as a weapon out of the bullpen. He doesn't have quite the name value of some other Braves pitching prospects, but Wilson has a chance to be as good as any of them. He has a very solid three-pitch repertoire and was comfortably sitting in the mid-90s with his fastball during his big-league debut. Prior to his promotion, he logged a 3.27 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 139:35 K:BB in 123.2 innings across the top three levels of the minors. He doesn't turn 21 until Dec. 20.

  • A.J. Minter RP | MIN

Braves' A.J. Minter: Day-to-day with back tightness

Minter was unavailable on Monday against the Pirates due to back tightness and is considered day-to-day, David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta reports.

Apparently his back has been bothering him over the past week, but the Braves are hopeful he will be available again in a day or two. Dan Winkler picked up his second save of the season Monday in Minter's absence.

Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Activated ahead of Monday's game

Jansen (irregular heartbeat) was reinstated from the 10-day DL and will be available to pitch Monday against the Cardinals, Pedro Moura of The Athletic reports.

Jansen will continue to monitor his heart every day and added that there's a "90 percent chance" that he will require another surgical procedure this offseason, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. That said, Jansen is no longer on blood thinners and will not have any restrictions moving forward, which is something that he made abundantly clear during Monday's pre-game talk with reporters. He will return to his ninth-inning role where he's logged a 2.15 ERA and 61 strikeouts across 54.1 frames in 2018.

Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Nearing return after Monday's check-up

Jansen (irregular heartbeat) appeared to have received positive news during Monday's cardiologist visit, and could return to the Dodgers' bullpen in the near future, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Jansen's situation is still a little murky as there has yet to be a definitive statement that he's been cleared to resume pitching in live games at this point in time. Per Gurnick, Jansen was wearing a shirt that read, "I'm back," and when questioned, the reliever confirmed that message. In addition, Jansen was able to throw off the mound Wednesday and Friday and didn't experience any issues. Look for an update from manager Dave Roberts in the coming days, though Jansen's initial month-long timetable appears to be in the rear-view mirror.

  • Giants' Dereck Rodriguez: Slated for return Friday

Manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that the club is planning on having Rodriguez (hamstring) return from the DL and start Friday's game against the Rangers, Kerry Crowley of the Bay Area News Group reports.

It appears Rodriguez will be back well before his anticipated timetable after suffering a Grade 1 hamstring strain last week. Though Bochy will likely confirm his start in the coming days, this is good news for Rodriguez and his owners as it's evident that this injury won't sidelined him for long. Throughout 14 appearances (12 starts) in 2018, he's logged a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.

Braves' Bryse Wilson: Recalled; to start Monday's game

Wilson was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett and will start Monday's game versus Pittsburgh.

The 20-year-old will make his major-league debut somewhat unexpectedly, taking the place of projected starter Kevin Gausman just hours prior to the first pitch. According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, this will allow the club to push each starter back a day. Across three starts with Gwinnett, Wilson posted a 4.50 ERA and 0.85 WHIP with a sparkling 24:2 K:BB over 20 innings. Following Monday's start, Wilson is expected to return to the minors, though he will likely return to the fold when roster expand in September. In order to make room for Wilson, Ryan Flaherty was designated for assignment and Chad Bell was outrighted to Triple-A.

  • Buddy Boshers RP | HOU

Pirates' Buddy Boshers: Heads back to minors

Boshers was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

After being claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh two weeks ago, Boshers spent eight games with the club but failed to make an appearance. Prior to joining the organization, he pitched in 38 games for the Twins in 2018, logging a 4.89 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 35 innings.
