Burdi (biceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Burdi was diagnosed with a strained biceps tendon and flexor mass earlier in the day by team physicians, but he could avoid surgery, which would mean a faster recovery time for the reliever. He'll require more than the 10-day minimum while on the injured list and has been ruled out indefinitely. The Pirates have recalled Steven Brault from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.

Hoffman could be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to make a spot start Tuesday against the Nationals, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Kyle Freeland was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday after he was revealed to have suffered a blister on his left middle finger, creating the need for a temporary addition to the rotation. With long man Chad Bettis making a 37-pitch relief appearance in Monday's series opener, the Rockies don't appear to have any viable replacements for Freeland on the active roster, so look for the team to delve into the minor-league ranks for a spot starter. Hoffman, who last pitched for the Triple-A club April 16, represents one of the more logical fill-in options by virtue of having a fresh arm and already possessing a 40-man roster spot.

Quijada was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Quijada will likely have a chance to make his big-league debut after Jarlin Garcia was placed on the paternity list. Quijada has been used in the closer's role for the Baby Cakes this season, posting a 3.38 ERA with three saves and eight strikeouts over eight innings.

The Mets are hopeful that Wilson (elbow) will be ready to return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible April 29, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

Wilson was shut down Monday after experiencing stiffness in his left elbow, but an MRI cleared him of any structural damage. The Mets are optimistic that Wilson will only need a few days of rest to overcome the elbow issue, so he should be ready to throw again by the weekend. He's not expected to require a rehab assignment before returning from the IL.

Garcia was placed on the paternity list Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Garcia will be away from the team for up to three days while attending to the birth of his child. In a corresponding move, Jose Quijada was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.

Ponce de Leon was recalled as expected ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday against the Brewers.

Ponce de Leon has a 3.24 ERA through three starts for Triple-A Memphis this season. He threw 33 innings in his debut campaign for the Cardinals last season, finishing with a 2.73 ERA. Drew Robinson was optioned to Memphis in a corresponding move.

An MRI revealed no full tear or fracture, so he appears to have avoided the worst-case scenario. He's out indefinitely, and the Pirates would be wise to treat him with caution, as Burdi has thrown just 21 innings since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2017.

Kay allowed one hit and three walks over six scoreless innings while striking out 10 for Double-A Binghamton on Monday.

The Mets' No. 8 fantasy prospect has been sharp to begin the year, holding the opposition off the scoreboard entirely in three of his four outings and posting a 1.89 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 22:9 K:BB through 19 innings. Kay underwent Tommy John surgery in 2016 after being drafted in the first round that summer and had only 122.2 pro innings under his belt coming into this season. A strong campaign could put him firmly in the Mets' 2020 rotation plans.

Nelson (shoulder) is on the verge of beginning a rehab assignment, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.

Nelson has worked at the Brewers' extended spring training complex since the regular season began, and he recently threw several simulated games, the most recent coming Monday, in which he threw around 70 pitches. The Brewers have not officially decided on Nelson's next step, but according to manager Craig Counsell, "As long as we get through the next couple of days with recovery, then yes, the next step (for Nelson) is an affiliate." If Nelson is sent out as expected and begins his rehab assignment this weekend or early next week, he would be on track to join the Brewers -- and make his first big-league appearance since September of 2017 -- before May comes to a close.

Suarez suffered a Grade 1 left hamstring strain in his most recent start Saturday for Triple-A Sacramento, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

The lefty has been placed on the minor-league injured list and is expected to miss two weeks. He has a 5.89 ERA in four starts for Sacramento this season.
