Pivetta will transition into a bullpen role for the Phillies, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

The Phillies signed Drew Smyly on Friday and are inserting him into the starting rotation, bumping Pivetta to the bullpen. The 26-year-old should be available to pitch this weekend since Wednesday's start lasted only 2.1 innings due to a rain delay. Pivetta has a 5.74 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 58:25 K:BB through 69 innings this season.

Clarke (back) was activated off the 10-day injured list to start Friday's game versus the Brewers.

Clarke landed on the injured list July 3 with left back inflammation but is ready to rejoin the starting rotation following last Saturday's rehab start for High-A Visalia. The 26-year-old has a 6.21 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB through his first nine major-league starts.

Alzolay (bicep) has been dealing with inflammation in his right bicep, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Alzolay was forced to leave his start Wednesday after just 3.2 innings. Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register reports that Alzolay claims his arm just "didn't feel right." The young right-hander will need some extra rest, but could see a return to the mound soon.

Edwards (back) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Edwards has been sidelined since suffering a back injury in late May, but he's ready to rejoin the Cubs after a four-game rehab stint at Triple-A Iowa. The 27-year-old had six straight scoreless appearances before landing on the IL, but he still has a 5.40 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB this season.

Weigel was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.

Wes Parsons was also recalled to the big leagues with Kyle Wright and Touki Toussaint being optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett in corresponding moves. Weigel has posted a 3-2 record, along with a 2.98 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 52 strikeouts across 60.1 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. Although the 25-year-old has started 17 minor-league games this season, he is expected to work out of the major-league bullpen.

Jerez (1-0) picked up the win Thursday after holding the Mets to one run on two hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts over two innings in relief.

Jerez came into the 15th inning with the game tied 1-1 and held the Mets scoreless until the 16th frame, when he served up a go-ahead solo home run to Pete Alonso. Luckily, the Giants came through with a rally in the bottom of the frame for the win. Jerez, who was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of Thursday's game, owns a 3.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over two appearances this season.

Hudson (9-4) got the win against the Reds on Thursday, giving up three earned runs on six hits over five innings, striking out three and walking two as the Cardinals won 7-4.

The 24-year-old continues to hold his own in his first full season as a starter, notching his third win in his last four starts in this contest. He's sporting a solid 3.57 ERA over 103.1 innings, although his 1.51 WHIP suggests he's probably a bit fortunate that number isn't a little higher. He'll take on the Pirates in his next start on the road on Tuesday.

Neris allowed one earned run on one hit and struck out one to record the save Thursday against the Dodgers.

Neris was able to pitch after appealing his three-game suspension and recorded his 18th save. However, it wasn't without some drama as he allowed a solo home run to Alex Verdugo. Neris has now allowed at least one earned run in five of his last eight appearances, dating back to June 27. While there aren't any clear candidates to take the closer role from him who are currently healthy, David Robertson (elbow) is working back from injury and could take some chances away from Neris if he continues to struggle.

Lamet allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts across four innings during a no-decision against the Marlins on Thursday.

This start was definitely a step in the right direction for the 26-year-old. Thanks to an error, the Marlins scored two runs in the second inning. Lamet gave up another home run -- his fourth in three starts this season -- but that was the only earned run he yielded, and the Padres offense managed to tie the game to get Lamet off the hook. It's a small sample, but Lamet is 0-2 with a 5.14 ERa, 1.43 WHIP and 19 strikeouts in 14 innings this season. He will start next at the Mets on Wednesday.

Jerez was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Jerez will provide the Giants with a fresh bullpen arm after the team used four relievers for a combined five innings during Wednesday's 11-8 win over the Rockies. The lefty issued two walks across a scoreless relief appearance during his last stint with the big club. Andrew Suarez was sent to Sacramento to free up a roster spot for Jerez.
