  • Wil Crowe RP | PIT

Pirates' Wil Crowe: Struggles with inefficiency

Crowe (3-7) allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out four across 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Crowe allowed three home runs in his last start, and he managed to correct that issue by allowing no long balls in Wednesday's outing. However, he labored later in the game, throwing 23 pitches in the fourth inning and requiring 26 pitches to record two outs in the fifth frame. Crowe has been decent at preventing runs over his last five outings, as he's recorded a 3.55 ERA. However, he's struggled to work deep into games and has failed to complete five innings in each of his last two starts. For the season, he has a 5.27 ERA with a 75:40 K:BB across 80.1 frames.

  • Ryan Weathers SP | NYY

Padres' Ryan Weathers: Hammered by Miami

Weathers (4-5) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up six runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over 4.2 innings as the Padres were routed 7-0 by the Marlins. He struck out seven.

The K's salvaged some fantasy value for the southpaw, but Weathers got taken deep in each of the first three innings (twice by Lewis Brinson and once by Bryan De La Cruz for the rookie's first career homer) as he served up three long balls for the second time in his last three starts. Weathers has a brutal 15.42 ERA over that stretch, and he seems unlikely to hang onto a rotation spot once another option gets healthy for San Diego.

  • Andres Machado RP | WAS

Nationals' Andres Machado: Wednesday's game postponed

Machado won't start Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets since the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Machado was set to start a bullpen game after the completion of Tuesday's suspended contest earlier Wednesday evening, but the rain resulted in another postponement. The game will be made up via a doubleheader Thursday, and it remains to be seen if Machado will start one of those contests for the Nationals.

  • Andres Machado RP | WAS

Nationals' Andres Machado: Starting Game 2

Machado will start Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets.

Originally scheduled starter Joe Ross covered five innings earlier in the day during the completion of Tuesday's suspended contest, and Machado will open the bullpen game for Washington in the nightcap. Machado figures to throw an inning or two given he hasn't pitched more than two innings during a big-league appearance this year.

  • Tanner Rainey RP | DET

Nationals' Tanner Rainey: Called up as 27th man

Rainey was recalled by the Nationals to serve as the 27th man for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.

Rainey will provide a fresh arm out of the bullpen in Wednesday's nightcap after the Nationals and Mets concluded a suspended game in the afternoon. The right-hander has been in the minors since the beginning of August, but he's posted a 7.20 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 25 innings across 31 relief appearances in the big leagues this year.

  • Mitch White RP | MIL

Dodgers' Mitch White: In line to fill rotation opening

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said White will be called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City to either start or serve as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen in Thursday's series finale in Philadelphia, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Regardless of how he's deployed, White will cover the bulk of the innings and is thus the most likely Dodgers pitcher to factor into any decision. With Trevor Bauer on administrative leave, the newly signed Cole Hamels requiring more time in the minors to build up his pitch count, and all of Tony Gonsolin (shoulder), Clayton Kershaw (forearm) and Danny Duffy (forearm) on the injured list, the Dodgers don't have many options on the 40-man roster capable of filling the fifth spot in the rotation. With that in mind, White could be in store for additional starts or outings as a primary pitcher beyond Thursday.

  • Connor Brogdon RP | CLE

    Phillies' Connor Brogdon: Starting Wednesday

Brogdon will start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Kyle Gibson was slated to start Wednesday's contest, but Brogdon will instead take the mound with the Phillies apparently preparing for a potential weather delay early in the contest. Brogdon was activated from the injured list earlier in the day and figures to be limited to an inning or two.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Brewers' Josh Hader: Set to return Thursday

Hader (illness) cleared the COVID-19 intake protocols Wednesday and is expected to be activated from the injured list Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Hader landed on the shelf Aug. 2 after testing positive for the virus, and he'll rejoin the active roster after being sidelined for the 10-day minimum. Devin Williams has been filling in as Milwaukee's closer, and he should return to the setup role once Hader is officially activated.

  • Hoby Milner RP | CHC

Brewers' Hoby Milner: Recalled by Brewers

Milner was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Milner will serve as an extra left-handed arm in the Brewers' bullpen after southpaw Angel Perdomo (back) was placed on the injured list Wednesday. The 30-year-old has recorded a 5.40 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in 11.2 innings across 11 relief appearances in the majors this year.

  • Justin Topa RP | MIN

Brewers' Justin Topa: Activated by Brewers

Topa (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Topa began the season on the 60-day injured list due to a flexor tendon strain, and he spent nearly a month in the minors on a rehab assignment. Across 10 relief appearances, the right-hander posted a 2.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in nine innings. He'll now be available to make his season debut out of Milwaukee's bullpen.
