Alex Reyes RP | LAD
Cardinals' Alex Reyes: Saddled with sixth loss
Reyes (5-6) took the loss in an extra-inning defeat at the hands of the Brewers on Wednesday, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits and a wild pitch while recording three strikeouts over two innings.
The normally reliable closer experienced a rare stumble, allowing a game-tying solo home run to Avisail Garcia in the ninth inning and then hurting his own cause in the 10th with both a throwing error and a wild pitch. Reyes is now 27-for-29 in save opportunities, and he's given up at least one run in consecutive outings for the first time since July 4-5.

Mitch White RP | MIL
Dodgers' Mitch White: Earns win as bulk reliever
White (1-1) took the win Wednesday versus Pittsburgh, pitching 7.1 scoreless frames during which he gave up two hits and two walks while striking out six.
The right-hander was tabbed for a bulk-relief role and ended up finishing the game after entering with two outs in the second inning. White's 7.1 frames and 91 pitches were career highs, as were his six strikeouts. The dominant effort landed White his first win of the season and second of his career. He has pitched to a 3.19 ERA and 1.19 WHIP on the season and is likely to take the mound again -- either as a starter or a bulk reliever -- against the Padres next week.

Kyle Finnegan RP | DET
Nationals' Kyle Finnegan: Notches fourth save
Finnegan gave up a hit and struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings to record his fourth save of the season in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Blue Jays.
The right-hander continues to thrive in a high-leverage role for the Nats. Finnegan has allowed only one earned run over his last 14 appearances and 14.1 innings, and he's converted four of five save chances since Brad Hand was dealt to Toronto just before the trade deadline.

Devin Williams RP | NYM
Brewers' Devin Williams: Snags third save
Williams tossed a scoreless 10th inning and picked up his third save of the season in Wednesday's victory over the Cardinals.
Closer Josh Hader pitched the bottom of the ninth inning after the Brewers tied the game in the top of the frame, so Williams got a shot to close it out after the offense put up three runs in the 10th inning. Although he allowed the courtesy runner to score, that was the extent of the damage. Williams has allowed just one earned run since June 5, and since that stretch began he has recorded five wins, three saves, a 0.38 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP while posting a 38:9 K:BB over 24 innings.

Jordan Hicks RP | CHW
Cardinals' Jordan Hicks: Resumes bullpen sessions
Hicks (elbow) threw a bullpen session Monday, his first time doing so since suffering his injury May 1, the team's official site reports.
Hicks has been playing catch regularly in the field for some time, but the return to the mound is naturally a significant step in his recovery. The Cardinals continue to hold out hope they'll be able to get Hicks some game action -- be it at the major- or minor-league level -- before the end of the season, but they will continue to operate with considerable caution given the hard-throwing right-hander's extensive injury history.

Manuel Rodriguez RP | TB
Cubs' Manuel Rodriguez: Records first win
Rodriguez (1-2) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win Wednesday against the Reds. He walked one and struck out three.
Rodriquez earned his first MLB save earlier this month but he was the first pitcher out of the bullpen Wednesday, pitching the fifth and sixth innings in relief of Adrian Sampson. It looks like Rodriguez may be working in a flexible role for the Cubs, though that could be the case for most of the team's relievers -- the bullpen is a bit unsettled following the trade of Craig Kimbrel and Ryan Tepera at the deadline, as well as Dan Winkler getting designated for assignment. Rodriguez has been solid in limited work, recording a 3.38 ERA and 10 strikeouts across eight innings.

Justin Bruihl RP | STL
Dodgers' Justin Bruihl: Opening again Wednesday
Bruihl will start Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Bruihl served as an opener Monday against the Pirates and delivered a scoreless inning, and he'll do so again in Wednesday's series finale. Mitch White is expected to follow as the primary pitcher for the Dodgers.

Ryan Rolison RP | CHC
Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Rehabbing in ACL
Rolison (hand) began a rehab assignment at the Rockies' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Aug. 12 and has covered 6.1 innings between his first two outings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks while striking out nine.
Rolison is on the comeback trail after a fractured left hand kept him out of competitive action for just over nine weeks. He covered four innings in his most recent rehab start Monday, so he may only need one or two more turns in the lower levels of the minors before being activated from Triple-A Albuquerque's 7-day injured list.

Tanner Rainey RP | DET
Nationals' Tanner Rainey: Shut down at Triple-A
Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Wednesday that Rainey was shut down at Triple-A Rochester a few days ago after experiencing pain in his side, Maria Torres of The Athletic reports.
Fortunately for Rainey, an MRI on his side returned negative, so the Nationals won't shutter him for the season and are hopeful he'll recover from the injury after resting for a few days. The 28-year-old has endured a brutal 2021 campaign from both a health and performance standpoint; he's missed time due to collarbone, tibia and side injuries and COVID-19 protocols, and he submitted a 7.62 ERA and 1.81 WHIP over 32 relief appearances with Washington before being optioned to Triple-A last week.

Yennsy Diaz RP | NYM
Mets' Yennsy Diaz: Returns to Triple-A
The Mets optioned Diaz to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Diaz was a casualty from the active roster after the Mets needed to bring up Chance Sisco from Triple-A to serve as the backup catcher behind Patrick Mazeika in Wednesday's series finale in San Francisco due to No. 1 backstop James McCann (back) not being available off the bench. Since receiving a promotion from Syracuse on July 4, Diaz appeared in 13 games out of the New York bullpen, logging a 4.11 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 15.1 innings.
