Trevor May RP | ATH
Mets' Trevor May: Grabs first win
May (1-0) picked up the win in Monday's victory over the Cardinals despite giving up two runs on three hits and a walk in one inning of relief. He struck out one.
With the game tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, May took over from Max Scherzer and quickly made a mess of things, loading the bases with one out before Tyler O'Neill drove a two-run single to left field. Fortunately for May, the Mets rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth. The veteran reliever is struggling to begin the season with an 8.53 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB through 6.1 innings, but he has stumbled into one win, one save and one hold in his six appearances.

Victor Arano RP | WAS
Nationals' Victor Arano: Pitch mix fueling success
Arano credits his success early this season to reducing usage of his four-seam fastball in favor of his sinker and slider, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
The 27-year-old right-hander has emerged as a viable high-leverage arm for the Nationals, posting a 14:1 K:BB through his first nine innings this year with a 2.00 ERA and two holds. Arano had some success with the Phillies in 2018, but injuries the following season derailed his career until he got another chance with Washington this spring. If he can stay healthy, he could provide some stability to a Nats bullpen that desperately needs it.

Tyler Gilbert RP | CHW
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Works as reliever
Gilbert allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out three over three innings in Monday's 4-0 loss to the Dodgers.
Gilbert, who made a spot start last week against the Nationals, was called up Monday and will operate out of the bullpen. His role could change, per Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic, who reports manager Torey Lovullo left the door open for Gilbert to start down the road. The left-hander made six starts in 2021, posting a 3.47 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with a 20/11 K/BB ratio over 36.1 innings.

Giovanny Gallegos RP | LAD
Cardinals' Giovanny Gallegos: Blows first save
Gallegos (0-1) blew his first save of the season Monday in a 5-2 loss to the Mets, coughing up four runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Entering the game to begin the ninth inning with the Cardinals nursing a 2-0 lead, Gallegos saw Nolan Arenado sail a throw on what could have been the third out but instead was ruled an infield single by Mark Canha. Jeff McNeil then doubled, and Dominic Smith brought both home by beating Gallegos to the bag after Paul Goldschmidt fielded his scorching grounder deep behind first base. It was a tough way for Gallegos to blow his first save in five tries and eventually take the loss, but the right-hander's ratios coming out of Monday are deceptive -- his 6.43 ERA on the season would drop to 1.29 if Canha's hit were scored an error on Arenado instead.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mets' Edwin Diaz: Nails down second save
Diaz walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Monday to record his second save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Cardinals.
The right-hander has seen only three save chances through his first eight appearances this season, but that's been a product of the Mets' offense piling up the runs most nights. Diaz has been sharp when called upon regardless of the situation, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB through eight innings, and there's little doubt the saves will come.

Camilo Doval RP | NYY
Giants' Camilo Doval: Locks down fourth save
Doval struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save Monday night against Milwaukee.
Doval looked shaky for a moment against his first batter of the night, firing three straight balls before battling back to retire Hunter Renfroe on a flyout to center. He would then register a strikeout and a groundout to end the contest. Doval benefitted from the Giants taking a late lead in this one, as San Francisco deployed Jake McGee in the bottom of the eighth in a game where McGee would give up the lead, and Doval ended up receiving the save opportunity following a two-run blast in the top of the ninth by the Giants. While Doval figures to continue to share save chances with McGee going forward, he does lead the club with four saves to McGee's two.

Sam Long RP | KC
Giants' Sam Long: Tosses clean frame
Long allowed one hit and struck out one in one scoreless inning Monday night against Milwaukee. He didn't factor into the decision.
Long did his job as the opener, escaping the first inning without any damage after allowing an infield single to Christian Yelich. Long has fared well in the opener role, hurling three scoreless frames in two opportunities. The southpaw has yet to allow a run through 5.2 innings, striking out five and walking one over that stretch.

Tyler Gilbert RP | CHW
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Back in big leagues
Gilbert was recalled by the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Gilbert made a spot start Tuesday in the second game of a doubleheader against the Nationals and looked good, allowing one run in 5.2 innings, but he wound up taking the loss. He's up on a seemingly more permanent basis this time around, though it's unclear what his role will be.

Andre Jackson RP | PIT
Dodgers' Andre Jackson: Moves up to majors
The Dodgers recalled Jackson from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Los Angeles will bring Jackson aboard to provide the bullpen with a fresh arm capable of covering multiple innings after the Dodgers used four relievers to record the final 12 outs of Sunday's 10-2 win over the Padres. Jackson previously made three relief appearances for the Dodgers in 2021, logging 11.2 innings while giving up three earned runs and striking out 10.

Tanner Scott RP | LAD
Marlins' Tanner Scott: Unravels in non-save situation
Scott gave up three runs on two hits while striking out one and getting just one out before being replaced in the ninth inning Sunday against Atlanta. He entered with a 5-1 lead, and Miami ended up winning 5-4.
Scott struck out Travis Demeritte for what would have been the first out of the ninth inning with the Marlins up four runs, but it was a wild pitch and Demeritte reached first base safely. That was followed by an Ozzie Albies double, a Matt Olson sacrifice fly and an Austin Riley two-run homer. Scott got a save Saturday in a clean ninth inning and was called on a second day in a row to protect a four-run lead. He created a save situation that Louis Head converted. The Marlins seem to have a committee in the ninth inning, though manager Don Mattingly would like one pitcher to emerge as the go-to option. Anthony Bender has faltered in the role, so any of Scott, Cole Sulser or Anthony Bass could get opportunities in the short term.
