Dillon Peters RP | PIT
Pirates' Dillon Peters: Excels as opener
Peters allowed one walk and did not record a strikeout across two innings Wednesday against the Brewers. He did not factor into the decision.
Peters has begun the 2022 season in a bulk-relief role for Pittsburgh, regularly working at least two innings in his appearances. However, he drew the start Wednesday, with Bryse Wilson following him. Peters has yet to allow an earned run across 12.1 innings this season, though he has only an 8:5 K:BB. It's possible that the team looks to build him up to a traditional rotation role, but it appears more likely that his appearance to begin the game Wednesday was an effort to get Wilson on track.

Anthony Bender RP | MIA
Marlins' Anthony Bender: Notches fourth save
Bender gave up a hit and struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings Wednesday to record his fourth save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Nationals.
After getting nearly a week off due to hip soreness, Bender appears to be 100 percent as he's pitched on back-to-back days, picking up saves in each appearance. The 27-year-old right-hander topped out at 98.4 mph with his power sinker, and while Dylan Floro (shoulder) is closing in on his return to the Marlins' bullpen, Bender could still have time to build up a little job security in the closer role.

Kyle Nelson RP | ATL
Diamondbacks' Kyle Nelson: Streamlined pitch mix
Nelson ditched his cutter in favor of exclusively throwing a fastball-slider mix, Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic reports.
Nelson added the cutter during the offseason leading up to 2021 in hopes of showing a third viable pitch, but the results were not good. The left-hander was tagged for a 9.31 ERA across 9.2 innings for Cleveland before being demoted. His performance in the minors was equally discouraging, so the Guardians eventually cut him loose. The Diamondbacks, whose analytics staff was intrigued by the fastball-slider mix, quickly claimed him off waivers. After getting him to scrap the cutter, the 25-year-old pitcher has been a gem out of the bullpen since getting the call from Triple-A Reno. Across 7.2 innings this season, Nelson has not allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Jake Junis RP | TEX
Giants' Jakob Junis: Strong outing behind opener
Junis pitched five scoreless innings against Oakland on Wednesday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six. He did not factor in the decision.
The Giants chose to deploy Junis as the primary pitcher behind opener Sam Long in the contest, but the strategy didn't pay off as Long allowed the game's only run in his inning of work. Nonetheless, it was a promising outing by Junis, who recorded his second straight scoreless outing and has yet to allow a run while posting a 10:1 K:BB through 10 innings this season. It remains to be seen if Junis will continue to work behind an opener moving forward, but he has likely earned further opportunity with the club given his standout pitching thus far.

David Robertson RP | PHI
Cubs' David Robertson: Earns win Wednesday
Robertson (1-0) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts to earn the win Wednesday against Atlanta.
The Cubs used Robertson to record the final out in the bottom of the eighth inning, then let the veteran work the ninth as well. The righty continued to cruise, as his ERA is still at 0.00 to go with 11 strikeouts across 8.2 innings this season. Robertson left the game with the teams tied 3-3 but earned the win when Chicago scored three times in the top of the 10th. Rowan Wick picked up his first save of the season with Robertson pulled after retiring his four batters on 18 pitches.

Taylor Rogers RP | MIN
Padres' Taylor Rogers: Gets one-out save
Rogers pitched one-third of an inning, retiring the only batter he faced on the way to a save in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Reds.
After the Padres entered the bottom of the ninth inning up 8-3, Rogers was called upon to protect an 8-5 lead with two men on base. He promptly induced a game-ending flyout off the bat of Jake Fraley on the first pitch he threw, securing his sixth save of the season. Rogers is 6-for-7 on save opportunities and has not allowed an earned run while posting a 0.57 WHIP with seven strikeouts over seven innings this year.

Josh Hader RP | HOU
Brewers' Josh Hader: Earns 10th save
Hader walked two but struck out three across a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Wednesday against the Pirates.
Hader walked two of the first three batters he faced, but he struck out Yoshi Tsutsugo and Roberto Perez to end the game and earn his 10th save of the season. That mark leads the league, but perhaps more impressive have been the skills Hader has displayed. He has yet to allow an earned run across 9.1 innings while striking out 15 and walking only four.

Bryse Wilson RP | CHC
Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Thrives in bulk role
Wilson allowed one hit and no walks while striking out four across four scoreless innings Wednesday against the Brewers.
Wilson was originally tabbed as Pittsburgh's starter, but he ultimately entered the game in the third inning. He proceeded to cover four effective frames, keeping the Brewers scoreless. Wilson won a job in the rotation out of spring training, though he failed to cover more than 4.1 frames in any of his three starts this season. It is not clear whether the team will continue Wilson in this role, but it was clearly the most effective he has looked early on in the campaign.

Mark Melancon RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Mark Melancon: Closes out another game
Melancon struck out one and did not allow a baserunner in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Melancon entered the game with a two-run lead and retired the side in order on 11 pitches to record his fourth save of the season. He's now closed out consecutive games, not allowing a hit in either appearance. Melancon has struck out only three hitters across eight innings but has turned in seven scoreless appearances early on in the campaign.
