John Brebbia RP | COL
Giants' John Brebbia: Starting bullpen game Friday
Brebbia will start Friday's game against the Marlins, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
The 32-year-old will take the mound on short notice for his first career start Friday after Alex Cobb (back) was a late scratch. Brebbia hasn't pitched more than two innings in any of his first 22 appearances of the season, and he's unlikely to have a significant pitch count during Friday's bullpen game.

Andres Machado RP | WAS
Nationals' Andres Machado: Recalled from Triple-A
Machado was promoted from Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Machado will return to the big leagues after being sent down Tuesday, filling in for Josh Rogers (shoulder) who was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday. The right-hander has produced a 5.40 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over 13.1 innings in 12 appearances with the Nationals this season.

Sean Hjelle RP | SF
Giants' Sean Hjelle: Back with Giants
Hjelle was called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Hjelle will rejoin the Giants after making a quick appearance with the big-league club earlier this season, tossing a scoreless frame with a strikeout May 6 versus the Cardinals. He will take the roster spot of Sam Long who was optioned to Triple-A on Friday.

Sam Long RP | KC
Giants' Sam Long: Optioned to Triple-A
Long was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
After being recalled Wednesday, Long tossed two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out a batter Thursday versus the Marlins. He'll now return to Sacramento as Sean Hjelle makes his way to the big leagues.

Taylor Rogers RP | MIN
Padres' Taylor Rogers: Melts down again Thursday
Rogers (0-3) took the loss and blew a save against Milwaukee on Thursday, allowing four runs on two hits and two hit batsmen without retiring a batter.
Rogers was asked to protect a three-run ninth-inning and couldn't get the job done. The southpaw allowed an inning-opening single before hitting two straight batters to load the bases. He then allowed a bases-clearing, game-tying triple before being pulled, and he was charged with the loss when Andrew McCutchen followed with a walkoff hit against Nabil Crismatt. Rogers was incredible over his first 20 games with San Diego, allowing only one run over 20.1 innings and racking up 17 saves. Since then, he's given up seven earned runs across 1.2 frames over three games while picking up three losses and two blown saves. He's likely earned some leeway given his strong start to the campaign, but continued struggles could result in the Padres removing him from the closer role to sort things out.

Brusdar Graterol RP | LAD
Dodgers' Brusdar Graterol: Secures sixth hold
Graterol earned a hold against the Mets on Thursday, pitching a scoreless inning during which he allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
After starter Tony Gonsolin logged six scoreless innings, Graterol continued the shutout in the seventh frame. He yielded a one-out single but didn't allow the runner to advance into scoring position. Graterol had a rough stretch in mid-May but has rebounded by tossing 8.1 scoreless innings over his past five appearances. He's posted a 7:2 K:BB and given up only four hits over that stretch.

Justin Wilson RP | BOS
Reds' Justin Wilson: Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Wilson underwent Tommy John surgery Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Wilson had been sidelined with an elbow injury since late April, and he moved to the 60-day injured list in late May. Following Friday's procedure, the southpaw will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2022 season and most or all of the 2023 campaign. It's a discouraging development for the 34-year-old, who had been effective over a limited sample in 2022, allowing just one run on three hits and no walks while striking out seven in 3.2 relief innings.

Craig Kimbrel RP | TB
Dodgers' Craig Kimbrel: Secures save Thursday
Kimbrel picked up a save against the Mets on Thursday, striking out one batter in a perfect ninth inning.
Kimbrel had been struggling heading into Thursday, giving up at least one run in three straight outings and posting a 12.00 ERA over that stretch. He looked good against New York, however, needing only 12 pitches to set down the side in order. Kimbrel has recently been working on his mechanics, which may have contributed to the positive performance. The veteran closer has 11 saves in his first season with the Dodgers while posting a 4.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 22:6 K:BB across 16 innings.

Zack Thompson RP | STL
Cardinals' Zack Thompson: Contract selected Friday
Thompson's contract was selected from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.
Thompson is one of the Cardinals' top prospects, and the team has spent the last two years developing him as a starter in Memphis. He's made 10 minor-league starts this year and has posted a 4.67 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 44.1 innings. The southpaw hasn't yet made his major-league debut but will join the active roster for the first time in his career. The Cardinals have a doubleheader against the Cubs on Saturday, but it's not yet clear whether Thompson will make his big-league debut as a starter or out of the bullpen.

Robert Gsellman RP | WAS
Cubs' Robert Gsellman: Outrighted to Triple-A
Gsellman cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
Gsellman made eight relief appearances for the Cubs in May and posted a 4.70 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 15.1 innings. However, the right-hander lost his spot on the Cubs' 40-man roster Monday and will remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers.
