  • Tyler Matzek RP | NYY

Braves' Tyler Matzek: Rehab start begins Monday

Matzek (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment Monday at Single-A Augusta, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Matzek has been cleared for game action after he tossed a live batting practice session Saturday without issue. The 31-year-old has been sidelined since mid-May with shoulder inflammation and will likely need at least two rehab appearances before Atlanta brings him back from the 15-day injured list.

  • Alexis Diaz RP | TEX

Reds' Alexis Diaz: Could be activated Friday

Diaz (biceps) could be ready to return from the 15-day injured list Friday when first eligible to be activated, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Diaz was scheduled to throw off a mound Sunday in San Francisco for the first time since landing on the IL on June 19. Assuming Diaz comes out of the side session feeling no worse for the wear, he'll throw again Wednesday in what could be his final test before he returns from the IL. Though Diaz was part of the Reds' muddled closing mix prior to landing on the shelf, he could have to settle for a setup role upon his return after manager David Bell suggested Sunday that Hunter Strickland could get a long look in the ninth-inning role.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Weeks away from mound work

Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Treinen (shoulder) is "weeks away" from resuming mound work, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Treinen was cleared to play catch in early June, and he's ramped up intensity while continuing to throw off flat ground over the last several weeks. In spite of his recent progress in his recovery, the right-hander isn't close to throwing off a mound. Treinen is unlikely to have a better idea of his timetable to return to game action until he clears several more hurdles in his recovery process.

  • Caleb Ferguson RP | CIN

Dodgers' Caleb Ferguson: Throws live BP

Ferguson (forearm) threw live batting practice Sunday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Ferguson has spent just under a week on the injured list due to left forearm tendinitis, and it was encouraging to see him face live hitters Sunday. He'll throw another live BP on Wednesday, and manager Dave Roberts hopes the southpaw will be able to rejoin the Dodgers during their series against the Padres next weekend.

  • Raymond Kerr RP | ATL

Padres' Ray Kerr: Rejoins parent club

The Padres recalled Kerr from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

Kerr is getting his fourth call-up of the season with the Padres sending Steven Wilson (hamstring) to the 15-day injured list. Over his five appearances with San Diego this season, Kerr has given up two earned runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two across 3.2 innings.

  • Padres' Steven Wilson: Shelved with hamstring injury

The Padres placed Wilson on the 15-day injured list Sunday with left hamstring tendinitis.

San Diego brought up lefty Ray Kerr from Triple-A El Paso to replace Wilson in the bullpen. Before apparently picking up the injury during his one-out appearance in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Phillies, Wilson had compiled four wins, one save, five holds and a 3.62 ERA across 27.1 innings in relief this season.

  • Cardinals' Giovanny Gallegos: Takes blown save

Gallegos allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout in 1.1 innings Saturday versus the Cubs. He took a blown save.

Gallegos' misstep was a game-tying, two-run home run to Rafael Ortega in the eighth inning. Manager Oli Marmol then replaced Gallegos with Ryan Helsley on the mound, and it was the latter reliever who got the final five outs of the game and the win as the Cardinals pulled ahead in their half of the eighth. Saturday's outing marked the end of a six-inning scoreless streak for Gallegos. He has two wins, one save, two holds and a blown save in seven outings in June, whereas Helsley has a win, two saves, a hold and a blown save. That doesn't lend much clarity to the Cardinals' two-man closer committee, but Helsley has allowed only two runs (one earned) this season while Gallegos has been noticeably easier to score off of with a 3.21 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 34:8 K:BB across 28 innings.

  • Dodgers' Brusdar Graterol: Takes loss Saturday

Graterol (2-3) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out one batter in one inning.

After the Dodgers tied the score in the top of the eighth inning, they turned to Graterol to keep things even in the bottom of the frame. The right-hander was unable to do so, allowing a Travis d'Arnaud double followed by a Marcell Ozuna homer before getting any outs. Though Graterol retired the next three batters, the Dodgers were unable to overcome the damage. It's likely that Graterol will continue to see high-leverage work with Daniel Hudson (knee) out for the season and Blake Treinen (shoulder) not close to returning, though the team could also look to acquire a key reliever before the Aug. 2 trade deadline.

  • Marlins' Jimmy Yacabonis: Picks up loss in relief

Yacabonis (0-1) took the loss Saturday against the Mets, allowing one run on one hit while striking out three and walking none.

Yacabonis entered a tied game and proceeded to allow a home run to Pete Alonso, which pushed the Mets into the lead. Yacabonis had his contract selected June 15 and already has 12 strikeouts across 5.1 innings. The loss Saturday was his first of the season. Yacabonis has a 3.38 ERA on the campaign.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Picks up save

Diaz picked up the save Saturday against Miami, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out three and walking none.

Diaz pitched a clean ninth inning, throwing 12 of 16 pitches for strikes against the heart of Miami's order. It was the eighth time this season that the reliever struck out at least three batters in an appearance. The save was his 16th of the year and the outing lowered his ERA to 2.12.
