Mark Leiter RP | ATH
Cubs' Mark Leiter: Takes sixth loss
Leiter (2-6) allowed an unearned run on one hit across 1.1 innings of relief to take the loss in extra innings Monday against the Blue Jays. He walked two and had no strikeouts.
Leiter took his sixth loss of the season, but he didn't pitch poorly, as both of his walks were intentional. His only real mistake was a walkoff single he allowed to Danny Jansen in the 11th inning, which brought home the runner that started the frame on second base. Even with the loss, Leiter has been outstanding recently with a 1.93 ERA and 14 strikeouts across 14 innings this month. The righty has settled into a regular bullpen role with the Cubs now that the likes of Scott Effross, David Robertson and Mychal Givens are no longer around.

Javier Assad RP | CHC
Cubs' Javier Assad: Pitches well again Monday
Assad pitched five scoreless innings but did not factor into the decision in Monday's extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays. He allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out one.
Assad made his MLB debut last week and tossed four scoreless innings. He followed that up with another strong outing, though he does have just four strikeouts versus six walks in his nine innings of work. The 25-year-old managed a 2.95 ERA across 36.2 innings at Triple-A Iowa this season, so while he won't keep posting zeroes, he could have some sustained success at the MLB level, particularly if he can cut down on the free passes moving forward. Assad will look to keep rolling in his next scheduled start Sept. 6 against the Reds.

Nick Martinez SP | TB
Padres' Nick Martinez: Remains in closer role
Manager Bob Melvin stated Monday that Martinez will continue to be his first choice in save chances, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
Martinez has been used as the team's top closing option since Melvin announced Josh Hader would get a break from the closer's role earlier in the month, and the skipper will continue his current bullpen strategy until further notice. Martinez is in the midst of an impressive scoreless streak, appearing in 10 straight games without allowing a run (13.2 innings).

Adbert Alzolay RP | NYM
Cubs' Adbert Alzolay: Piles up strikeouts at Triple-A
Alzolay (lat) struck out six and allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks over two innings in his rehab start Saturday with Triple-A Iowa.
Considering he needed 50 pitches to retire six batters, the 27-year-old wasn't especially efficient Saturday, but the nine swinging strikes he generated on the day were an encouraging sight. Alzolay, who has been on the injured list all season while recovering from a lat strain, will likely need to complete one or two more rehab starts before the Cubs activate him.

Seranthony Dominguez RP | CHW
Phillies' Seranthony Dominguez: Advances to playing catch
Dominguez (triceps) was cleared to play catch Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Dominguez reiterated Monday that he felt great after throwing for the first time since landing on the injured list with right triceps tendinitis. Skipper Rob Thomson noted after the session that even though Dominguez has been on the 15-day IL for just over a week, he is expected to need at least one rehab appearance before being activated, which should happen sometime during the team's upcoming homestead or soon after, per Zolecki.

Tyler Holton RP | DET
Diamondbacks' Tyler Holton: Heads to minors
Holton was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday.
Holton was called up by the Diamondbacks at the end of July and posted a 4.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in six innings over eight relief appearances during his month in the major-league bullpen. However, he'll lose his spot on the active roster after Caleb Smith (finger) was reinstated from the injured list.

Bryse Wilson RP | PHI
Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Starting Monday
Wilson is starting Monday against the Brewers, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Wilson made his last start Friday against the Phillies and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits while striking out one in one inning. He initially lined up to make his next start Wednesday, but he'll pitch on short rest Monday since he threw just 43 pitches Friday.

Blake Treinen RP | LAD
Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Still expected back Friday
Treinen (shoulder) is expected to make his final rehab appearance for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday before being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
When Treinen began his rehab assignment Aug. 12, the Dodgers identified Sept. 2 as the target date for the right-hander's return to the active roster, and that timeline hasn't changed in the proceeding three weeks. Treinen has performed satisfactorily through his first six rehab outings at Oklahoma City -- he's posted a 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 6:1 K:BB in five innings -- and if he comes out of Tuesday's appearance unscathed, he'll give the Dodgers bullpen yet another potential impact arm heading into the postseason. While Craig Kimbrel seems to have lost some security as the Dodgers' closer, high-performing setup men Evan Phillips and Brusdar Graterol will likely be ahead of Treinen in the pecking order for saves if manager Dave Roberts elects to make a change at the back of the bullpen.

Dauri Moreta RP | PIT
Reds' Dauri Moreta: Optioned to Triple-A
Moreta was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
Moreta made just one relief appearance for the Reds after being called up Thursday, striking out two in 1.1 perfect innings against the Phillies on Thursday. However, he'll head back to the minors as part of a move to make room on the active roster for Chase Anderson, whose contract was selected ahead of Monday's start against the Cardinals.

Chris Martin RP | TEX
Dodgers' Chris Martin: Moves past arm injury
Martin (arm) struck out one and gave up one hit over a scoreless inning of relief Sunday in the Dodgers' 8-1 win over the Marlins.
Martin wasn't available for the start of the series in Miami on Friday on account of an arm issue, but he was cleared to resume working out of the bullpen when an MRI cleared him of any structural damage. Judging by the drama-free appearance Sunday, Martin looks like he'll remain a trusted option in the middle-to-late innings for the Dodgers. Since being acquired from the Cubs on July 30, Martin has generated a 1.69 ERA, 0.47 WHIP and 13:0 K:BB in 10.2 innings with the Dodgers.
