Tommy Nance RP | TOR
Marlins' Tommy Nance: Activated Thursday
Nance (groin) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Nance made a rehab appearance at Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday and struck out one in a perfect inning. The right-hander will rejoin the Marlins after a minimal IL stint and will be available out of the major-league bullpen for the final week of the regular season.

Sean Manaea RP | NYM
Padres' Sean Manaea: Likely to work behind opener
Manaea is expected to work in bulk relief behind Steven Wilson, who is scheduled to serve as the Padres' opening pitcher in Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The Padres gave Manaea just under a two-week break from the rotation earlier this month, but the lefty didn't show major improvement in his subsequent two starts. While pitching on the road in Arizona and Colorado his last two times out, Manaea struck out five over 8.2 innings while allowing five earned runs on nine hits and three walks. Manager Bob Melvin will experiment with Manaea behind an opener Thursday as the southpaw gets some early exposure to the bullpen role he would likely fill for the Friars during a potential postseason run.

Steven Wilson RP | TB
Padres' Steven Wilson: Tabbed to open Thursday
Wilson will start Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
Wilson has a 2.88 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 50:18 K:BB across 50 innings this year, and he'll make his first career start as the opener in Thursday's series finale. The rookie right-hander is unlikely to qualify for a potential victory and should give way to the bullpen after an inning or two.

Mark Melancon RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Mark Melancon: Earns 18th save
Melancon didn't allow a baserunner during the 10th inning to pick up the save against the Astros on Wednesday.
Melancon's number was called in the bottom of the 10th, and he proceeded to retire all three batters he faced on a total of six pitches to record his first save since Aug. 17. The 37-year-old reliever has been solid for the Diamondbacks in September to the tune of a 2.70 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 10 appearances.

Brusdar Graterol RP | LAD
Dodgers' Brusdar Graterol: Will operate as opener
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Graterol will serve as the team's opening pitcher in Thursday's game in San Diego, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Roberts noted that Andrew Heaney will pitch "somewhere behind" Graterol, likely functioning as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen in what had been his typical turn through the rotation. Since Graterol hasn't recorded more than six outs in any of his appearances in the majors or minors this season, he likely won't be asked to face any batter more than once before giving way to the bullpen.

Sean Hjelle RP | SF
Giants' Sean Hjelle: Earns win as bulk reliever
Hjelle earned the win over Colorado on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out two batters over four innings.
Reliever John Brebbia opened the game for San Francisco and completed one inning. Hjelle followed with four solid frames, and he departed after the fifth with the Giants up by a run. San Francisco was able to keep the lead throughout the remainder of the contest to give Hjelle his first big-league win. Following a rough outing against the Dodgers on Sept. 17 during which he gave up six earned runs in just one inning, Hjelle has bounced back by surrendering a respectable three earned runs over his subsequent eight frames.

Tommy Kahnle RP | BOS
Dodgers' Tommy Kahnle: Records first save in four years
Kahnle picked up a save against the Padres on Wednesday, striking out one batter in a perfect 10th inning.
After the Dodgers scored the game's first run in the top of the 10th, Kahnle was called upon to close the door in the bottom of the frame. The automatic runner moved to third base with one out, but Kahnle then struck out Trent Grisham and induced a Ha-Seong Kim groundout to finish off his first save since 2018. The right-hander has held the opponent scoreless in nine of 11 appearances this season and could see more save chances moving forward now that manager Dave Roberts has transitioned to a closer committee after moving Craig Kimbrel out of the role.

Bryse Wilson RP | PHI
Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Eight shutout innings
Wilson allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six across eight scoreless innings Wednesday against the Reds. He did not factor into the decision.
Wilson turned in his best outing of the season and struck out at least six batters for the first time since May 4 -- a span of 18 appearances. He induced 10 groundball outs and also generated 11 swinging strikes across 90 total pitches. Though he's pitched poorly for most of the season, Wilson owns a 3.90 ERA with a 23:8 K:BB across 30 frames and five starts in September.
-
Alexis Diaz RP | TEX
Reds' Alexis Diaz: Takes loss in extra frame
Diaz (6-3) allowed an unearned run on one walk and one hit while striking out two across 1.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Pirates.
Diaz entered the game in the ninth inning and kept the score knotted at 3-3. He remained on the mound for the 10th inning and allowed a soft bloop hit to Kevin Newman to surrender the winning run. Despite the minor setback, Diaz has maintained a 1.80 ERA with a 12:5 K:BB across 10 innings in September. He should remain locked into the closer role in the final week of the season.

Manuel Rodriguez RP | TB
Cubs' Manuel Rodriguez: Tallies fourth save
Rodriguez retired the final two batters in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Phillies to record the save.
Rodriguez now has four saves since getting activated from the injured list on Aug. 26. He's seemingly moved ahead of Rowan Wick in the closer pecking order, though Brandon Hughes is also in the mix from the left side. With seven games left in the season, Rodriguez could squeeze out a little more fantasy value if he sees a few more save chances.
