  • Dinelson Lamet RP | LAD

Rockies' Dinelson Lamet: Reaches deal with Colorado

Lamet signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Rockies on Wednesday.

Lamet was claimed off waivers by the Rockies in August after he was traded to the Brewers and designated for assignment, and he was able to avoid arbitration with his new team. The 30-year-old allowed 13 earned runs over 12.1 innings with San Diego prior to the trade but pitched better for Colorado with a 4.05 ERA across 20 frames.

  • Jarlin Garcia RP | PIT

Giants' Jarlin Garcia: Designated for assignment

Garcia was designated for assignment by the Giants on Tuesday.

Garcia made 58 appearances for San Francisco in each of the past two seasons and had a 3.16 ERA across 133.2 innings, but the club has opted not to carry him on the 40-man roster through the offseason. Despite the solid overall numbers, the veteran lefty took a step back in 2022 with a 4.26 FIP.

  • Tristan Beck RP | SF

Giants' Tristan Beck: Joins 40-man roster

Beck was added to the Giants' 40-man roster Tuesday.

Beck opened 2022 at Double-A Richmond but quickly earned a promotion to Triple-A Sacramento, where he spent the rest of the season. The 26-year-old struggled after he was moved up a level with a 5.64 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 97:29 K:BB across 97.1 innings with the River Cats.

  • Carlos Vargas RP | SEA

Diamondbacks' Carlos Vargas: Sent to Arizona

Vargas was acquired by the Diamondbacks from the Guardians on Tuesday in exchange for Ross Carver.

Vargas received his first call-up to the big leagues in mid-September, though he didn't make his debut while up with the Guardians. The 23-year-old will now head to Arizona, where he should have a clearer path to pitching in the majors.

  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Joining 40-man roster

Martinez was added to the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster Tuesday.

Martinez spent the first half of 2022 completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery, and he saw most of his game action while he built up with High-A Hillsboro. The 21-year-old moved up to Triple-A Reno down the stretch and should open next season in the upper minors.

  • Padres' Nick Martinez: Back with Friars

Martinez agreed to a three-year contract with the Padres on Tuesday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

The right-hander declined his $6.5 million player option with the Padres for 2023 last week, but he quickly reached a new deal with the club. Martinez opened 2022 in the rotation but shifted to the bullpen in June and eventually served as the fill-in closer, and he finished the campaign with a 3.47 ERA over 106.1 innings. The 32-year-old should have more staying power as a starter next season since Mike Clevinger and Sean Manaea -- who combined for 50 starts in 2022 -- are now free agents.

  • Jeff Brigham RP | CHC

Marlins' Jeff Brigham: Designated for assignment

Brigham was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Tuesday.

Brigham spent the final month of the season in the majors but won't retain his spot on Miami's 40-man roster. The 30-year-old appeared in 16 big-league games and had a 3.38 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 28:10 K:BB over 24 innings.

  • Marlins' Elieser Hernandez: DFA'd by Miami

Hernandez was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Tuesday.

Hernandez opened 2022 in Miami's starting rotation but was demoted to the minors in June. He started in 10 of 20 appearances and finished with a 6.35 ERA across 62.1 innings, so the Marlins decided not to keep him on the 40-man roster through the offseason.

  • Derek Law RP | ARI

Reds' Derek Law: Designated for assignment

Law was designated for assignment by the Reds on Tuesday.

Splitting time between Detroit and Cincinnati last season, Law was dominant out of the bullpen, recording a 1.13 ERA through his first 13 appearances. His ERA then shot up to 17.18 over his final four appearances. Should Law clear waivers, he will have to regroup in Triple-A before the Reds bring him back into their bullpen.

  • Jeff Hoffman RP | TOR

Reds' Jeff Hoffman: DFA'd by Reds

Hoffman (elbow) was designated for assignment by the Reds on Tuesday.

Before having his season cut short in July, Hoffman recorded a 3.83 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 44.2 innings in 2022 -- the best marks of his seven-year career to date. He lost his spot on the 40-man roster in order to make room for prospects being protected from the Rule 5 draft, but considering the solid year he just had prior to injury, it's possible he'll get claimed off waivers by another team.
