  • Cole Waites RP | DET

Giants' Cole Waites: Optioned to Triple-A

Waites (lat) was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Waites made his spring debut Thursday, striking out two and allowing one hit over a scoreless inning. The plan is for Waites to build up with Sacramento early in the season. It's safe to assume that he's healthy since he got into game action, and a strong showing with Sacramento should earn the right-hander a look at the major-league level at some point this season.

  • Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Could win bullpen spot

Muckenhirn has posted a 7:0 K:BB over six scoreless innings this spring and could win the final spot in the Mets' bullpen, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

The 28-year-old southpaw has yet to make his big-league debut, but he could get that chance in 2023 in a New York bullpen with a spot open after Edwin Diaz's season-ending knee injury. Muckenhirn would give the Mets a second left-handed relief option behind Brooks Raley (hamstring) and would likely work in low-leverage spots.

  • Andre Jackson RP | PIT

Dodgers' Andre Jackson: Wins final bullpen spot

Jackson will have a spot in the Dodgers' Opening Day bullpen, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Jackson is positioned to operate in long relief out of the gate for Los Angeles, though that role could be a revolving door as the 2023 season plays out. The 26-year-old right-hander has tallied 10 strikeouts with a 1.17 ERA through 7.2 innings this spring in the Cactus League.

  • Dodgers' Victor Gonzalez: Optioned to minors

Gonzalez was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City by the Dodgers on Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Gonzalez is a bit of a surprise demotion to Triple-A, but his poor spring training (10.38 ERA, 1.85 WHIP) will see him open the year in Oklahoma City where he'll try and work things out. With Gonzalez now in the minors, Ardaya speculates that Andre Jackson now has a path to be the multi-inning relief option for the Dodgers to begin 2023.

  • Steven Okert RP | HOU

Marlins' Steven Okert: Still battling groin tightness

Okert (groin) is unlikely to be ready for the beginning of the season, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Okert began experiencing adductor tightness in his inner left thigh earlier this week and is not scheduled to pitch in the Marlins' final set of Grapefruit League games. "Bad timing obviously," the reliever said Friday. "There's never a good time to get hurt, but [especially] right at the end of camp. Just got to get healthy and come back so I can help the team as best I can."

  • Sean Hjelle RP | SF

Giants' Sean Hjelle: Looks set for bullpen role

Hjelle appears to be in line for a spot in the Giants' Opening Day bullpen, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Hjelle has covered 15 innings over five Cactus League outings, pitching to an excellent 1.80 ERA and 18:2 K:BB. The Giants' rotation remains crowded even with concerns around Alex Cobb's knee, but Hjelle should get a chance to be a long reliever or tandem starter early in the season. The right-hander made all eight of his major-league appearances out of the bullpen last season, but he's worked exclusively as a starter in the minors.

  • Lucas Luetge RP | BOS

Braves' Lucas Luetge: Clean outing Thursday

Luetge struck out one in a perfect eighth inning during Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.

A.J. Minter worked the ninth, as manager Brian Snitker perhaps offered a preview of how he intends to deploy his bullpen lefties while Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) is on the shelf. Luetge, who has a 7:1 K:BB this spring through 5.2 innings, posted strong numbers for the Yankees the last two seasons in middle relief but managed only nine holds in 107 appearances. He could wind up seeing more high-leverage work for Atlanta in 2023.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Cleared to start throwing program

Treinen (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a throwing program Monday.

He'll play catch for the first time since undergoing right shoulder surgery in November. Treinen is hoping to make it back at some point late this season, but he could very well be out until 2024.

  • Raymond Kerr RP | ATL

Padres' Ray Kerr: Optioned to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Kerr to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Kerr spent most of last season in El Paso as well, logging a 5.08 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in 44.1 innings. He was able to limit runs a bit better during the spring, but allowing seven hits and four walks over 4.2 innings indicates there is plenty of work yet to be done for the 28-year-old lefty.

  • Kyle Nelson RP | ATL

Diamondbacks' Kyle Nelson: Optioned to Reno

The Diamondbacks optioned Nelson to Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Nelson had an outstanding season in 2022, logging a 2.19 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through 37 innings out of the bullpen. Unfortunately, he got hit around a bit more in the spring, giving up four earned runs over 8.2 frames. The 26-year-old southpaw will begin the season in Triple-A, but he figures to be one of the top choices to be called up should Arizona need more bullpen depth.
