Manaea allowed a run on a hit and a walk while striking out six over four-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Wednesday.

Manaea was solid, but he gave up a leadoff double to Luis Rengifo to open the sixth inning. Tristan Beck entered the game and allowed an intentional walk, a single and a three-run home run to put a run on Manaea's line. Over his last five appearances, Manaea has given up one run, four hits and two walks while striking out 14 over 11.2 innings. He's at a 5.10 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 94:29 K:BB through 77.2 innings overall, and the southpaw will likely continue to be available as a bulk reliever.

Gallegos picked up the save Wednesday against the Rays, striking out one over a scoreless inning.

It's Gallegos' first save since Jordan Hicks was dealt at the trade deadline. It appeared that the 31-year-old right-hander would be first in line for save opportunities until Ryan Helsley's (forearm) return, though he's been splitting the job with JoJo Romero so far. Gallegos has now gone nine straight appearances (10.1 innings) without allowing a run, striking out 11 in that span. His ERA is down 3.45 with a 1.02 WHIP and 47:9 K:BB across 47 innings this season, while he's racked up nine saves and 15 holds.

Hudson (3-0) earned the win Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings against the Rays. He struck out two.

Hudson's now 2-0 in two starts since rejoining St. Louis' rotation while allowing six runs over 12 innings. Overall, the 28-year-old Hudson sports a 4.31 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB across 31.1 innings this season. He's lined up for a home matchup with thhe A's in his next outing.

Lee (shoulder) is likely to be activated from the 60-day injured list by the end of this week, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Lee seems to be done with his minor-league rehab assignment after retiring all six batters he faced between two appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett. The 29-year-old left-hander had posted a sharp 3.10 ERA and 23:7 K:BB through 20.1 innings with Atlanta prior to going down with a shoulder issue in mid-May.

Gilbreath (elbow) was cleared to resume playing catch shortly after the All-Star break and was throwing off flat ground from up to 90 feet as of July 29, MLB.com reports.

After undergoing Tommy John surgery March 14, Gilbreath isn't a candidate to pitch for the Rockies in 2023, and his absence could even stretch into the early portion of the 2024 season. The fact that he's been able to begin a throwing program four months after surgery can at least be viewed as a positive sign at this early stage of his recovery.

Carasiti (shoulder) said July 29 that he's been able to resume playing catch, MLB.com reports.

Carasiti said he's responding well to treatment for his inflamed right shoulder, but he still has a few more hurdles in the recovery process to clear before his return from the 15-day injured list can be considered imminent. Prior to landing on the shelf, Carasiti compiled a 7.06 ERA and 1.71 WHIP across 21.2 innings out of the Colorado bullpen.

Mears (oblique) has been playing catch since late July but hasn't yet been cleared to throw off a mound, MLB.com reports.

Mears has been slow to bounce back from a left oblique strain, which forced him to the 15-day injured list June 28. Since he'll need to throw multiple bullpen sessions, face hitters in live batting practice and complete a rehab assignment prior to being activated, Mears doesn't look as though he'll be ready to rejoin the Rockies' bullpen until late August at the soonest.

Smith (4-4) took the loss in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Cubs. He allowed two hits, including a home run, while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning.

Smith was called upon in the eighth inning of a tense 2-2 tie and proceeded to serve up a decisive home run to Mike Tauchman on a center-cut, 3-2 fastball. Prior to Tuesday, Smith had seven consecutive scoreless appearances, during which he allowed only three hits and two walks while striking out eight across seven innings.

The Nationals returned Willingham to Triple-A Rochester after Tuesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Willingham appeared in the first game of the double dip, allowing two runs over 1.1 innings. He's been roughed up during his time with the big club this season with a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over 14 frames.

Bednar (3-2) took the loss and blew the save Tuesday as the Pirates fell 8-6 to Atlanta, coughing up three runs on three hits and two walks in the ninth inning. He struck out one.

Entering the game to protect a 6-5 lead, Bednar had some bad luck -- a line drive by Travis d'Arnaud deflected off Ke'Bryan Hayes' glove and went for a double instead of the second out of the inning -- but once Atlanta's offense got rolling, the Bucs' closer seemed helpless to stop it. Two of Bednar's three blown saves this season have come in his last three appearances, and he's been tagged for runs in all three, but he still sports a 2.08 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 57:15 K:BB through 47.2 innings with a career-high 23 saves.
