  • Diamondbacks' Anthony DeSclafani: Nearing return from IL

DeSclafani (thumb) threw 30 pitches during Friday's bullpen session, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

DeSclafani has been on the shelf since mid-August due to right thumb inflammation. He was cleared to face live hitters Tuesday, and the veteran right-hander is poised to return to the Diamondbacks' rotation barring any setbacks. DeSclafani has a 4.36 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 31:11 K:BB across 33 major-league innings this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Hoffmann: Dealing with elbow discomfort

Hoffmann was pulled from his outing with Triple-A Reno on Thursday due to posterior elbow discomfort, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Hoffmann recorded only one out in Thursday's game and allowed five runs on four hits and one walk. He'll return to Arizona to undergo imaging on his right elbow to determine the severity of the injury. Hoffmann has spent most of the 2025 season in Triple-A but has appeared in 10 major-league games (seven for Arizona, three for Kansas City), posting a 6.55 ERA and 2.00 WHIP across 11 innings.

  • Padres' Ron Marinaccio: Up from El Paso

The Padres recalled Marinaccio from Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

With Nestor Cortes (biceps) moving to the injured list, Marinaccio will join the big-league bullpen to provide San Diego with some extra bullpen depth until the team needs a fifth starter. The 30-year-old has tossed 4.2 shutout innings with the Padres this year, though he owns a 5.05 ERA and 1.50 WHIP through 46.1 frames in the minors. He'll likely be restricted to middle-relief appearances with the Friars.

  • Jesus Tinoco RP | MIA

Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Undergoes UCL surgery

Tinoco underwent UCL reconstruction surgery on his right arm Friday, Alex Krutchik of Fish on First reports.

The timeline for Tinoco's recovery is 13-to-14 months, which means the 30-year-old right-hander will miss the entire 2026 season while recovering from his UCL procedure. He's been on the Marlins' injured list since early June and was pulled off his throwing program in mid-August after suffering a setback during his throwing program. He appeared in 20 games out of the bullpen for the Marlins in 2025 and posted a 5.12 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and four saves (on six chances) across 19.1 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Elvin Rodriguez: Claimed by Arizona

The Diamondbacks claimed Rodriguez off waivers from the Orioles on Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Rodriguez has been optioned to Triple-A Reno. The Orioles designated Rodriguez for assignment earlier in the week. He's appeared in seven games with the Brewers and Orioles this season, logging a 9.15 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB across 19.2 innings.

  • Pirates' Braxton Ashcraft: Makes abbreviated start Wednesday

Ashcraft took a no-decision in his start during Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Dodgers, striking out four batters while allowing two hits and four walks over three scoreless frames.

After working at least five innings in each of his last three starts, Ashcraft tossed just 71 pitches before being lifted from Wednesday's contest. Ashcraft's early exit looks to have been a pre-planned arrangement; the right-hander has now totaled 103.2 innings between the majors and Triple-A Indianapolis this season, an increase of nearly 30 innings from what he covered during his time in the minors in 2024. The Pirates are also looking to manage the workload of one of their other young starters in Mike Burrows, who was moved to the bullpen last week and ended up tossing three innings in relief of Ashcraft on Wednesday. Though Ashcraft should continue to make starts for the Pirates, it wouldn't be surprising if he was deployed in tandem with Burrows in his future turns through the rotation.

  • Luarbert Arias RP | MIA

Marlins' Luarbert Arias: Loses 40-man roster spot

The Marlins designated Arias for assignment Friday.

Arias has been designated for assignment by Miami for the second time this season. In seven appearances with the Marlins, he's surrendered 13 runs on 17 hits and five walks across 10.1 innings. He's posted a 3.93 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP in 18.1 innings with Triple-A Jacksonville. His spot on the active roster will go to Josh Simpson, while Jack Winkler takes the open spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Receiving another start

Seymour is slated to start Friday's game against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

He'll be making his second straight turn through the rotation despite underwhelming in his first MLB start this past Saturday, when he took a loss to the Orioles after giving up four earned runs on five hits and two walks over three innings. Altogether, Seymour holds a 4.74 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB across 24.2 frames in the big leagues. Keeping the ball in the yard has proven to be a challenge for the righty, who has already yielded eight home runs.

  • Josh Simpson RP | SEA

Marlins' Josh Simpson: Recalled from Triple-A

The Marlins recalled Simpson from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday.

Simpson (2-2) has appeared in 23 games out of the Miami bullpen this season and has an ugly 8.87 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 24:16 K:BB across 22.1 innings of work. He'll likely fill a middle-relief role for the Marlins.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Making start Friday

Bellozo is slated to start Friday's game against the Phillies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Bellozo opened the season as a starter for Miami, but despite turning in a 3.27 ERA in 22 innings over his first five outings, he was dispatched to the bullpen in mid-May. With injuries having piled up in the Miami rotation of late, Bellozo will now get the chance to pick up his sixth start of the season, but he could be headed back to a relief role after Friday's contest. In his most recent appearance this part Friday against the Mets, Bellozo tossed 4.1 innings and 65 pitches out of the bullpen, so he should be able to provide the Marlins with a decent amount of length in his first start since May 13.
