Carl Edwards RP | NYM
Nationals' Carl Edwards: Resumes throwing
Edwards (shoulder) resumed throwing earlier this week, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Edwards underwent an MRI last Wednesday, shortly after landing on the injured list, and it confirmed the initial diagnosis of right shoulder inflammation. If all goes well with his side work, he might be an option again for the Nationals' bullpen coming out of the All-Star break.

Seranthony Dominguez RP | CHW
Phillies' Seranthony Dominguez: Unlikely back before break
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Friday that Dominguez (oblique) is unlikely to return before the All-Star break, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Dominguez resumed throwing earlier this week, but he's still limited to flat-ground work as the Phillies ease along his recovery from the left oblique strain that sent him to the injured list June 17. He'll probably try to advance to mound workouts sometime next week and could be ready for activation in mid-July.

James Naile RP | STL
Cardinals' James Naile: Back in St. Louis
The Cardinals recalled Naile from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.
With Jake Woodford (shoulder) headed for the injured list, Naile will come up from the minors to give the Cardinals additional bullpen depth. The 30-year-old righty has appeared in three MLB games this season, surrendering five runs (two earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out three batters across 4.1 innings.

Jesse Chavez RP | ATL
Braves' Jesse Chavez: Throwing long-toss
Chavez (shin) threw long toss in the outfield Friday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Chavez was shut down for a period after landing on the injured list June 15 due to a left shin contusion, but he's begun to ramp things up and could make it back to Atlanta's bullpen before the All-Star break. The veteran reliever had pitched to a terrific 1.55 ERA and 36:9 K:BB in 29 innings prior to the IL stint.

Ryan Rolison RP | CHC
Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Back on injured list
Rolison has been on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Albuquerque since June 4 due to an unspecified issue.
While recovering from shoulder surgery he underwent last summer, Rolison opened the season on the Rockies' 60-day IL and didn't begin a rehab assignment in the minors until mid-May. He was ultimately optioned to Albuquerque after being reinstated from the IL, but he made just four total appearances for the Triple-A affiliate before landing back on the shelf. It's unclear if Rolison suffered a setback with his surgically repaired shoulder or if he's dealing with an unrelated issue.

Jose Ferrer RP | SEA
Nationals' Jose Ferrer: Officially promoted
The Nationals recalled Ferrer from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.
The 23-year-old southpaw holds a 3.83 ERA and 1.55 WHIP alongside a 33:20 K:BB across 40 innings in Triple-A this season, and he'll be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game. He figures to begin his career in middle relief, but there could be openings in the high-leverage crew soon depending on what the Nationals do at the trade deadline. Patrick Corbin was placed on the bereavement list in a corresponding move.

Colin Holderman RP | CLE
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Reinstated from IL
Holderman (wrist) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Holderman will make his return to the big-league bullpen after missing the minimum 15 days with right wrist inflammation. The right-hander has produced a 4.01 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with 28 strikeouts while recording 12 holds and a save over 24.2 innings in 26 appearances with Pittsburgh in 2023. Cody Bolton was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.
-
Cody Bolton RP | HOU
Pirates' Cody Bolton: Optioned to Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Bolton to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.
Bolton will be pushed off the major-league roster due to the return of Colin Holderman (wrist) from the 15-day injured list Friday. Bolton threw a scoreless inning during his lone appearance after being recalled last week, but he holds an 11.00 ERA and 3.00 WHIP in the majors this season.

Dylan Lee RP | ATL
Braves' Dylan Lee: Moved to 60-day IL
Lee (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.
The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Charlie Culberson. Lee has been out since mid-May with left shoulder inflammation and now can't be activated until the second half, although the move doesn't appear to significantly impact his likely timeline for a return as he hasn't yet been sent on a rehab assignment.

Andrew Nardi RP | MIA
Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Vultures another win
Nardi (6-1) picked up the win Thursday, striking out one batter without allowing a run in two-thirds of an inning against the Red Sox.
Jesus Luzardo gave up a couple one-out singles in the seventh inning of a scoreless game and got the hook, but Nardi needed only seven pitches (five strikes) to escape the jam and become the pitcher of record when the Marlins pushed across a run in the top of the eighth. The 24-year-old southpaw continues to have a breakout campaign -- he's been scored upon only once in 25 appearances since the beginning of May, posting a 0.78 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB through 23 innings over that stretch while adding four wins, two saves and seven holds to his ledger. A.J. Puk remains the closer for the Marlins, but Nardi's dominance has moved him into a prominent high-leverage role.
