  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Marlins' Matt Barnes: Moves to 60-day IL

Barnes (hip) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Barnes underwent surgery on his left hip Tuesday and is likely to be out for the rest of the season. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list to create space on the 40-man roster for David Robertson, whom the Marlins acquired from the Mets on Thursday.

  • Marlins' David Robertson: Dealt to Miami

Robertson was traded by the Mets to the Marlins in exchange for two prospects Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The Marlins have been trying to bolster their bullpen in the last few days, first flipping Dylan Floro for Jorge Lopez. Now they've added Robertson, who has served as the Mets' primary closer this season and put together a stellar 2.05 ERA and 1.00 WHIP to go along with a 48:13 K:BB across 44 frames. It's unclear if he'll get the full allotment of saves in Miami, though he does pair well with A.J. Puk given their complementary handedness.

  • Sam Coonrod RP | NYM

Mets' Sam Coonrod: Rehab moves to Triple-A

Coonrod (lat) had his rehab assignment shifted Thursday to Triple-A Syracuse, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Coonrod is moving right along on his minor-league rehab assignment after tallying six strikeouts over four scoreless innings with Single-A St. Lucie. The 30-year-old right-hander has been sidelined all season due to a lat strain, but he looks poised to join the Mets' bullpen as early as next week.

  • Thad Ward RP | WAS

Nationals' Thaddeus Ward: Bullpen session Friday

Ward (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Ward is only going to throw fastballs and changeups during the workout, but it represents a significant step forward in his recovery from the right shoulder inflammation that sent him to the injured list July 3. He's currently on track to return to the Nationals' bullpen around mid-August.

  • Carl Edwards RP | NYM

Nationals' Carl Edwards: Set for simulated appearance

Edwards (shoulder) is slated for a simulated appearance Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

That might be the final step before Edwards is cleared to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 31-year-old reliever has been sidelined since June 21 due to right shoulder inflammation.

  • Tanner Rainey RP | DET

Nationals' Tanner Rainey: Moves to simulated work

Rainey (elbow) is scheduled to make a simulated appearance Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Rainey is almost 12 full months removed from Tommy John surgery and could get into a handful of games for the Nationals before their 2023 season comes to an end. He's under club control through 2025 but might be a trade candidate this winter if he's able to prove his health.

  • Trevor Megill RP | MIL

Brewers' Trevor Megill: Optioned to Nashville

The Brewers optioned Megill to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

With the acquisition of Carlos Santana from Pittsburgh on Thursday, Megill will head back to the minors to free up a spot on the Brewers' roster. The 29-year-old righty holds a 4.60 ERA and 1.47 WHIP through 15.2 innings, but he could return to Milwaukee later this year if the Brewers are ever in need of a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Cardinals' Wilking Rodriguez: Set for bullpen session

Rodriguez (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Rodriguez is about three months removed from arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder and could potentially become a bullpen option for the Cardinals sometime in August. The initial timetable called for him to miss 4-to-6 months.

  • Ryan Helsley RP | BAL

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Bullpen session coming Saturday

Helsley (forearm) will throw another bullpen session Saturday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Helsley began throwing off a mound July 19 before moving to the 60-day IL on Monday, so he won't be able to return for at least another two weeks. If everything goes well Saturday, Helsley could soon progress to facing live hitters.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Cubs' Brad Boxberger: Another bullpen session

Boxberger (forearm) is set to throw another bullpen session Friday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Boxberger could advance to live batting practice or perhaps even a minor-league rehab assignment if Friday's workout goes smoothly. He originally landed on the injured list in mid-May because of a right forearm strain and then suffered a setback in late June. The veteran reliever is trending toward returning to the Cubs' bullpen around mid-August.
