  • Jared Shuster RP | CHW

Athletics' Jared Shuster: Picked up by A's

The Athletics claimed Shuster off waivers Friday from the White Sox. He was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.

The White Sox designated Shuster for assignment Wednesday, and he'll get a fresh start with the A's. The 26-year-old posted an 8.04 ERA in 15.2 innings with the White Sox and a 6.04 ERA at Triple-A Charlotte during 2025.

  • Nick Sandlin RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Nick Sandlin: Throwing from 120 feet

Sandlin (elbow) is ramping up his throwing progression and is playing catch from 120 feet, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Sandlin was shut down from throwing in late July after receiving a cortisone shot in his right elbow, but the 28-year-old has resumed his throwing program and is progressing well. Sandlin is still limited to throwing on flat ground, so it appears he's multiple weeks away from returning.

  • Yimi Garcia RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Still experiencing nerve symptoms

Garcia (elbow) continues to experience ulnar nerve symptoms and is returning to Toronto on Friday to be re-evaluated, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The right-hander was working his way back from an ankle sprain in mid-July when the nerve symptoms surfaced, and he's apparently been unable to make much progress in his recovery over the past month. Garcia was filling a high-leverage role for Toronto with three saves and six holds in 22 appearances, but his availability for the playoff push remains in question due to the lingering injury.

  • Tayler Saucedo RP | SEA

Mariners' Tayler Saucedo: Recalled from Tacoma

The Mariners recalled Saucedo from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Tim Booth of The Seattle Times reports.

Saucedo rejoins the Mariners' pitching staff after Logan Evans (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL. Saucedo has appeared in five games for Seattle out of the bullpen this season, registering a 7.71 ERA, 2.36 WHIP and 4:3 K:BB across 4.2 innings.

  • Trevor Stephan RP | CLE

Guardians' Trevor Stephan: Removed from 40-man roster

The Guardians outrighted Stephan on Friday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Stephan has been playing for Triple-A Columbus since being activated off the 60-day injured list July 30, and he'll remain at Columbus or elect free agency after being outrighted. The 29-year-old has allowed 11 runs and three homers in seven innings with Columbus in 2025.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Astros' Josh Hader: Won't throw for three weeks

Hader has been diagnosed with a left shoulder capsule sprain and will not throw for approximately three weeks, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

After the three weeks of not throwing, the next steps will be determined in Hader's recovery. Hader received multiple medical opinions on his injured shoulder, and this is the current course of action. A return toward the end of the regular season seems like best-case scenario right now. Bryan Abreu picked up the save in Hader's absence Wednesday against the Red Sox.

  • Rafael Montero RP | DET

Tigers' Rafael Montero: Records first win of season

Montero (1-1) worked 1.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Thursday's 4-3, 11-inning victory over the Twins. He struck out two.

Montero was needed to record the final four outs of the game, as Kyle Finnegan pitched earlier in the contest and Will Vest wasn't used after recording a save Wednesday. While Montero has pitched better his last two appearances after a rough debut with the Tigers, the veteran righty is still hard to trust with a 5.52 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 43 outings on the season. He'll continue to work in a middle-relief role, with Finnegan and Vest seeing the bulk of Detroit's late-inning work.

  • Cade Smith P | CLE

Guardians' Cade Smith: Up to six saves

Smith recorded the final out Thursday to earn the save in a 9-4 win over the Marlins.

After Nic Enright loaded the bases in the ninth inning, Smith came on to record the final out and lock down his sixth save of the season. The 26-year-old Smith has been impressive since taking over the closing job in Cleveland. He's held opponents scoreless in his last eight appearances (nine innings) to lower his ERA to 2.67 with a 1.09 WHIP and 74 strikeouts across 54 innings this season.

  • Dietrich Enns RP | BAL

Orioles' Dietrich Enns: Locks down first save

Enns earned the save in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Mariners, allowing a run on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning.

Enns' first save since 2021 didn't come easy -- after giving up back-to-back singles to open the frame, the left-hander managed to hold Seattle to just one run to close out the Orioles' victory. Enns has pitched well overall since joining Baltimore at the trade deadline, allowing two runs while striking out 12 over 6.1 innings to put his name in the late-inning mix.

  • Jeff Hoffman RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Jeff Hoffman: Locks down 27th save

Hoffman earned the save in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Cubs, allowing a hit while striking out three in the ninth inning.

Hoffman worked around Nico Hoerner's one-out single, striking out the final two batters he faced, to earn his 27th save this season. After issuing five walks in just two-thirds of an inning during his last save chance, Hoffman has responded with back-to-back scoreless appearances, allowing just one hit over 1.2 innings. His ERA sits at 4.32 through 50 innings this season with a 1.10 WHIP and 69:16 K:BB.
