Twins' Josh Staumont: DFA'd by Twins

The Twins designated Staumont for assignment Tuesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

With Trevor Richards coming over to Minnesota in a trade with Toronto on Tuesday, Staumont will end up as the odd man out of a spot on the Twins' roster. The 30-year-old was able to get through his first seven MLB appearances of the year without allowing an earned run. However, he's given up 10 earned runs in just 4.2 innings since July 12.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Hernandez: Designated for assignment

The Rangers designated Hernandez for assignment Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

With the Rangers acquiring Andrew Chafin in a trade with the Tigers on Tuesday, Hernandez will lose his spot on the roster in order to create space. The 28-year-old righty owns a 5.05 ERA and 1.59 WHIP through 41 innings on the year.

Gervase has spent the 2024 season with the Mets' Double-A affiliate, generating a 3.25 ERA across 27.2 innings with 46 strikeouts. A 12th-round draft pick in 2022, the Rays will look to further develop the 24-year-old.

  • Chase Lee RP | TOR

Tigers' Chase Lee: Lands with Tigers

The Tigers acquired Lee and Joseph Montalvo from the Rangers on Tuesday in exchange for Andrew Chafin, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Lee has missed much of 2024 due to injury but has looked like a potential late-inning relief arm when healthy. He holds a 4.19 ERA and 139:46 K:BB over 105.1 innings during his time at the Triple-A level.

  • Tigers' Joseph Montalvo: Goes in Detroit in Chafin trade

The Tigers acquired Montalvo and Chase Lee from the Rangers on Tuesday in exchange for Andrew Chafin, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Montalvo has collected a 2.44 ERA and 73:19 K:BB over 59 innings this season with High-A Hickory. The 22-year-old is a nice get as part of a package for a rental reliever.

  • Twins' Trevor Richards: Moved to Minnesota

The Twins acquired Richards on Tuesday in exchange for infielder Jay Harry, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Richards will provide the Twins with a right-handed option out of the bullpen who's capable of covering multiple innings. The 31-year-old covered 52.1 frames over his 45 appearances with the Blue Jays this season, logging a 4.64 ERA with seven holds and a 49:24 K:BB.

  • Will Klein RP | LAD

Klein had been on the Royals' major-league roster, but it's not clear whether he'll report to Oakland or Triple-A Las Vegas.

  • Justin Slaten RP | BOS

Red Sox's Justin Slaten: Limited to playing catch

Slaten (elbow) remains limited to playing catch from 75 feet out as of Monday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Slaten landed on the 15-day injured list July 12 with right elbow inflammation and was believed to be in line for a minimum-length stay on the shelf, but a bout with an illness ended up delaying him from starting up a throwing program. He looks like he'll still need some time to increase his throwing distance off flat ground before the Red Sox clear him for mound work.

  • JT Chargois RP | TEX

Mariners' JT Chargois: Sent to Seattle

The Mariners acquired Chargois from the Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for right-hander Will Schomberg, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Chargois missed the first two-plus months of the season due to a neck issue, but he's pitched well in middle relief since being activated in mid-June with a 1.62 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB over 16.2 innings. The right-hander will bolster Seattle's bullpen depth and is also under team control for 2025.

  • Gabe Speier RP | SEA

Mariners' Gabe Speier: Optioned to Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Speier to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Speier has regressed this season, most notably in the control department -- he's issued 12 walks in 19.2 innings. He's being sent out in favor of a fresh bullpen arm.
