Rays' Hunter Bigge: Aiming to pitch again in 2025

Bigge (face/lat) said Monday that he feels back to normal and is hopeful to pitch again this season, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

Initially placed on the injured list back on May 6 due to a right lat strain, Bigge's return date was pushed back further June 19, when he was hit in the face by a foul ball while watching a game from the dugout. Bigge required surgery to address multiple facial fractures, but he appears to have made good progress in his recovery, noting Monday that he's since resumed eating solid foods. Bigge will look to regain strength before starting up a throwing program and gearing up for an eventual return from the 60-day IL.

  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

Rangers' Chris Martin: Expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that Martin (calf) is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Martin strained his left calf during an appearance Sunday versus the Tigers and landed on the 15-day injured list Monday. He will be out until at least mid-August, depriving the Rangers of one of their few reliable relievers. Martin has posted a 2.36 ERA and 36:6 K:BB over 34.1 innings while notching a pair of saves this season.

  • Scott Blewett RP | STL

Orioles' Scott Blewett: Second opinion on elbow

Blewett will receive a second opinion on his injured right elbow, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Blewett landed on the 15-day injured list just before the All-Star break and will get another set of eyes on his elbow before the next steps for the reliever are determined.

Rangers' Chris Martin: Lands on IL with strained calf

The Rangers placed Martin on the 15-day injured list Monday with a left calf strain.

Martin suffered the injury during an appearance Sunday against the Tigers. He will be eligible for activation Aug. 5, but it's too soon to know whether he will have a chance to be ready to return on that date.

  • Cole Winn RP | TEX

Rangers' Cole Winn: Recalled from Triple-A

The Rangers recalled Winn from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.

Winn has managed a 1.59 ERA in 17 relief innings with the big club this season, but a 11:8 K:BB suggests he's been fortunate. The right-hander will be used in low-leverage spots.

  • Brandyn Garcia RP | ARI

Mariners' Brandyn Garcia: Gets call to big leagues

The Mariners selected Garcia's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.

Garcia has been used as a full-time reliever this season between Double-A Arkansas and Tacoma, producing a 3.51 ERA and 42:17 K:BB over 33.1 frames between the two stops. The lefty has the stuff to be a late-inning weapon for the Mariners in time, but he's likely to be used in low-leverage spots initially. Garcia will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

  • Juan Burgos RP | ARI

Mariners' Juan Burgos: Sent down to Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Burgos to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.

Burgos did a fine job in his first four major-league relief appearances, yielding three runs with an 8:2 K:BB over 6.2 innings. His spot on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen is being absorbed by lefty Brandyn Garcia, who was called up from Tacoma.

  • Vinny Nittoli RP | BOS

Orioles' Vinny Nittoli: Nabs MiLB deal with Orioles

Nittoli agreed to a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Nittoli opted out of his minor-league pact with the Brewers last week and has quickly landed in a new organization. The 34-year-old last appeared in the big leagues with the Orioles in 2024, making two scoreless appearances. Nittoli will report to Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Mason Fluharty RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Mason Fluharty: Back in big-league bullpen

The Blue Jays recalled Fluharty from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.

Fluharty was sent down earlier this month following a rough stretch in which he surrendered 13 runs (12 earned) over his last 7.1 innings. The lefty seemed to right the ship at Buffalo, allowing one run with an 8:2 K:BB in 4.2 frames. Fluharty will give manager John Schneider a third southpaw in the bullpen ahead of a big series against the Yankees.

  • Blue Jays' Robinson Pina: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Blue Jays optioned Pina to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.

Pina had been with the big club for more than two weeks but made only one appearance during that time, allowing three runs (one earned) over 1.1 innings. Lefty Mason Fluharty was recalled from Triple-A to take Pina's spot in the bullpen.
