  • Jose Alvarado RP | PHI

Rays' Jose Alvarado: Fifth hold of season Wednesday

Alvarado notched his fifth hold of the season in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the White Sox, firing a scoreless eighth inning.

It was the 22-year-old's fifth scoreless effort in his last six trips to the mound and he's now lowered his ERA to 3.29 and WHIP to 0.73. All five of Alvarado's holds have come since May 14, a stretch in which he's posted a .175 wOBA, 2.08 ERA and .103 BAA across 8.2 innings in nine appearances.

  • Buck Farmer RP | CIN

Tigers' Buck Farmer: Another strong outing Wednesday

Farmer (2-0) tossed 6.2 scoreless innings Wednesday, scattering three hits and a walk while striking out five in a 4-0 win over the Angels.

He's now delivered 13 shutout innings over two starts with a 16:3 K:BB, and Farmer seems to have done more than enough to lock up the Tigers' fifth starter spot going forward. His next start is scheduled for Tuesday at home against the Diamondbacks.

  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

Athletics' Liam Hendriks: Solid multi-inning outing Wednesday

Hendriks fired two scoreless innings in Wednesday's 7-5 extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays, recording three strikeouts.

The right-hander continues to be an excellent source of strikeouts, as he's now racked up multiple whiffs in three straight outings, and in five of his last six appearances overall. Hendriks has compiled five holds and two wins on the season as well and represents one of manager Bob Melvin's most trusted options out of what has been an inconsistent bullpen.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Picks up 16th save Wednesday

Colome gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to notch his 16th save of the season in a 3-1 win over the White Sox.

The right-hander hadn't pitched in a week but showed no rust, converting his 11th straight save chance. Colome now sports a 1.98 ERA and 0.99 WHIP on the year and with the Rays just 5.5 games back in a winnable AL East, they may not be inclined to trade away their lockdown closer over the summer.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: MRI on tap Thursday

Santiago will head back to Minnesota for an MRI on his shoulder, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Santiago was placed on the disabled list with an undisclosed shoulder injury a day after getting pummeled for five runs in just 2.2 innings. He'll miss at least one turn in the rotation while on the DL, though a firmer timetable for his return should become available following Thursday's tests.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Lands on DL

Santiago was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury, Josh Horton of MLB.com reports.

Not much else is known about Santiago's injury, so expect an update on his status when the Twins release more information. He'll be eligible to June 16 if he is ready, so it's possible he'll only be forced to miss one turn in the rotation. Chris Heston, who was recently claimed off waivers, could fill his turn in the rotation Sunday against the Giants.

  • Buck Farmer RP | CIN

Tigers' Buck Farmer: Recalled ahead of Wednesday's start

Farmer was officially recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.

The Tigers sent Blaine Hardy packing Tuesday night to clear a spot on the active roster for Farmer, who is set to make his second start of the season and 10th career start Wednesday opposite the Angels' Alex Meyer. Farmer struck out 11 in 6.1 scoreless innings against the White Sox in his 2017 debut back on May 27, and if he holds his own Wednesday, he could get an extended look as Matt Boyd works some things out in the minors.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Throws successful bullpen Wednesday

Andriese (groin) suffered no setbacks during his bullpen session Wednesday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Andriese plans to start one of the Rays games on Saturday, with the twin-bill against Oakland coming this weekend. There has been no official confirmation of his start as of yet, but he played catch Tuesday and is expected to take the place of Jacob Faria upon his arrival.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Will start Friday

Johnson (hamstring) will be the starter against the Tigers on Friday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

Johnson is set to make his third start of the 2017 season Friday as he comes back from his hamstring injury. The 26-year-old was dominant in his spot start on May 27 against the Mariners, pitching a complete game shutout on five hits while fanning eight. Johnson is coming off a 33-pitch bullpen Tuesday and is ready to get another chance at the major-league level.

  • Donnie Hart RP | BAL

Orioles' Donnie Hart: Optioned to Triple-A Norfolk

Hart was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Hart will go down to Norfolk as Edwin Jackson takes his place in the bullpen. This will mark the second time this season that Hart has been sent down to the Triple-A affiliate. During this four-game stint with Baltimore, Hart gave up two earned runs and three hits in three innings of work.
