  • Jake Diekman RP | ATL

    Rangers' Jake Diekman: Officially activated

Diekman (abdomen) was activated from the 60-day disabled list Friday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

As expected, Diekman was reinstated with active MLB rosters expanding to 40 players Friday. The lefty showed no real ill effects while on his rehab assignment from the three separate surgeries he underwent earlier this year to repair and rebuild his colon, posting an 8:0 K:BB in 6.1 scoreless innings between Frisco and Round Rock. He should immediately step into a back-end role in the Texas bullpen.

  • Sam Moll RP | CIN

Athletics' Sam Moll: Promoted to Oakland

Moll was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Friday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

A waiver acquisition from Colorado in mid-August, Moll turned in six scoreless appearances with Nashville after posting a 4.18 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate to begin the year. He will get his first big-league opportunity, but Moll is unlikely to pitch meaningful innings.

  • Orioles' Jimmy Yacabonis: Recalled from Triple-A

Yacabonis was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Yacabonis has logged 6.2 innings out of the big-league bullpen, and posted a 1.32 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 48 strikeouts in 61.1 innings at Triple-A. He will be used primarily in low-leverage situations.

  • Ben Heller RP | CHC

Yankees' Ben Heller: Recalled from Triple-A

Heller was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

The 26-year-old righty has late-inning stuff, but he won't get such an opportunity in the loaded Yankees bullpen. He posted a 2.88 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 82 strikeouts in 56.1 innings at Triple-A.

  • Carson Fulmer RP | PIT

White Sox's Carson Fulmer: Recalled from Triple-A

Fulmer was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

This move makes sense with rosters expanding, as Fulmer is on the 40-man roster. However, he has a 5.79 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 96 strikeouts in 126 innings (25 starts) at Triple-A this year, so it's not as though Fulmer has earned a promotion. He figures to take on a bullpen role over the final month.

  • Daniel Norris RP | CLE

Tigers' Daniel Norris: Activated from DL

Norris (groin) was activated from the DL on Friday.

He wasn't effective in Thursday's rehab start for Triple-A Toledo, giving up five runs on five hits and four walks in two innings, but the Tigers had no reason to keep him on the DL with rosters expanding. Look for him to start either Tuesday or Wednesday against the Royals. Norris has a 5.29 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 79 strikeouts in 85 innings in the big leagues this year.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Transferred to 60-day DL

Santiago (back) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Friday.

This does not impact when Santiago will return to the big-league rotation, as he will be eligible in the coming days, it simply opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Niko Goodrum, whose contract was selected as a corresponding move. Santiago is expected to make another rehab start for Triple-A Rochester on Sunday and could return to the rotation at some point in September.

  • Buddy Boshers RP | HOU

Twins' Buddy Boshers: Called up from Triple-A

Boshers was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

He has been up and down this season, posting a 3.68 ERA in 14.2 innings at Triple-A and a 5.16 ERA in 29.2 innings in the big leagues. He should work mostly in low-leverage spots in September.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Activated from DL

Barnes (back) was activated from the DL prior to Friday's game against the Yankees, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

He will slot back into his mid-to-high-leverage role in Boston's bullpen. Barnes has a 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 66 strikeouts in 60 innings this year, picking up six wins in the process.

  • Rangers' Nick Martinez: Expected to lose rotation spot

Martinez is expected to move to the bullpen after the Rangers acquired starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez from the White Sox on Thursday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Martinez was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock last week to replace the struggling Tyson Ross in the rotation and made his second start Thursday, covering five innings and giving up two runs on five hits while striking out six in a loss to the Astros. Though Martinez has looked good in both of his outings since being recalled from Triple-A, he's struggled mightily on the whole this season, submitting a 5.17 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 92.1 innings with the big club. He's now in line to act as a swingman during the Rangers' playoff push in September, primarily serving in long relief and perhaps stepping in for spot starts when the need arises.
