  • Rays' Hunter Bigge: Officially ruled out for season

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Bigge (lat/face) will not return this season but is slated to pitch in winter ball, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Bigge initially went on the 15-day injured list back in early May with a right lat strain, but he then suffered multiple facial fractures in late June when he was struck by a ball in the dugout, an incident which eventually led to him being transferred to the 60-day IL. The righty has resumed mound work and will pitch in winter ball to make up for lost time.

  • Rays' Mason Englert: Throwing bullpen session

Englert (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Englert landed on the 15-day injured list earlier this month with a right shoulder impingement, but he would appear to have a shot to make it back before the end of the season. The righty has pitched well for the Rays when healthy, collecting a 3.83 ERA and 44:11 K:BB over 44.2 innings.

  • Nick Sandlin RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Nick Sandlin: Continuing throwing progression

Sandlin (elbow) threw a bullpen session over the weekend and will throw another one later this week, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Sandlin has been sidelined since before the All-Star break with right shoulder inflammation and encountered multiple setbacks, but he's not giving up hope on a late-season return. The righty has posted a 2.20 ERA and 16:8 K:BB over 16.1 frames this season out of the Blue Jays' bullpen.

  • Grant Taylor RP | CHW

White Sox's Grant Taylor: Throws bullpen session

Taylor (groin) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Monday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Taylor had to be removed from an outing last Wednesday due to a right groin strain and hasn't made an appearance since. The White Sox will see how the reliever rebounds Tuesday before determining when he might be available to pitch again.

  • Orioles' Carson Ragsdale: DFA'd by Orioles

The Orioles designated Ragsdale for assignment Monday.

Ragsdale was torched for eight runs over three innings in his major-league debut during Sunday's loss to Toronto and now finds himself off the 40-man roster a day later. It's the second time during the second half that he's been designated for assignment, as he was traded from the Giants to the Orioles in late July after San Francisco booted him from its 40-man roster.

  • Albert Suarez RP | BAL

Orioles' Albert Suarez: Shelved with sore elbow

The Orioles placed Suarez on the 15-day injured list Monday with right elbow discomfort.

Suarez pitched well in an abbreviated start during Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays, striking out five over three innings of one-run ball. However, he came out of it with a sore pitching elbow, which will sideline him for the remainder of the season. Suarez had previously missed most of the season with a right shoulder strain. He will undergo an MRI on his elbow Monday night to determine the severity of the injury, per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com.

  • Jose Castillo RP | BAL

Orioles' Jose Castillo: Claimed by Baltimore

The Orioles claimed Castillo off waivers from the Mariners on Monday.

Castillo will join his third different team this month after previous stints with the Mets and Mariners. The lefty has posted a 4.38 ERA and 23:11 K:BB over 24.2 frames this season in the majors.

  • Orioles' Yaramil Hiraldo: Back up with big club

The Orioles recalled Hiraldo from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

Hiraldo has posted a 5.65 ERA and 12:6 K:BB over 14.1 frames during his time with the big club this season. He will give the Orioles a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Ryan Borucki RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Ryan Borucki: Loses 40-man roster spot

The Blue Jays designated Borucki for assignment Monday.

Borucki made four scoreless relief appearances during his time with the Blue Jays this month, but it wasn't enough to retain his roster spot. The lefty will likely clear waivers, and if he does, he would have the ability to elect free agency.

  • Tyler Gilbert RP | CHW

White Sox's Tyler Gilbert: Serving as opener Monday

Gilbert will serve as the White Sox's opening pitcher in Monday's game against the Orioles.

Gilbert will draw his fourth opener assignment this season after he yielded one run with a 6:2 K:BB over four innings in his first three outings as a starter. Sean Burke is likely to follow Gilbert in a bulk-relief role.
