Johnson (1-3) took the loss against San Diego on Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one.

With David Price not yet ready to return from a wrist injury, Johnson was handed the ball for his seventh start of the season. The southpaw struggled early, allowing three first-inning runs on a trio of hits -- including a two-run homer by Manny Machado -- and a walk. He settled down to hold the Padres scoreless over the next two frames but continued to labor, allowing a pair of walks and a double, and was replaced at the start of the fourth inning after throwing 61 pitches (34 for strikes). The 28-year-old now owns an unsightly 6.83 and 2.07 WHIP along with a problematic 22:15 K:BB in 29 innings this season. With Price set for activation this weekend, Johnson is unlikely to get another start.

Giles struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning during Sunday's 3-1 loss to Seattle.

Giles was reinstated from the paternity list on Sunday, and the Blue Jays likely just wanted to get him loose again considering he'd appeared in only one game since Aug. 16. The 28-year-old righty lowered his ERA to 1.76 with a 67:15 K:BB.

Beeks surrendered seven runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings Sunday against the Orioles. He didn't factor into the decision.

Beeks entered in the third inning of this one, and he'd give up three runs in the third, followed by two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh on the way to an 8-3 loss. The 26-year-old southpaw hasn't found much success of late, yielding 16 runs (14 earned) over his last three appearances (15 innings).

Lopez was pulled from his start Sunday against the Rangers after five innings due to dehydration and flu-like symptoms.

Lopez may have been pitching under the weather, but it certainly didn't show based on his results. He tossed 80 pitches across five no-hit frames, issuing only two walks and striking out six in the outing. Reliever Aaron Bummer squandered the no-hitter the following inning, but Lopez's outing was an encouraging step forward after he yielded eight total runs en route to taking losses his last two times out. Lopez will likely be close to full strength and ready to roll when his next turn through the rotation comes up next weekend in Atlanta.

Shafer was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Shafer has struggled of late, giving up six runs with a 6:7 K:BB over his last 7.1 innings, so he'll make his way to Buffalo. The 26-year-old has been mostly solid for the Blue Jays with a 3.19 ERA over 31 innings this season, so he should rejoin the team after rosters expand in September.

Stewart was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Stewart was recalled from Buffalo on Saturday and worked as the primary pitcher, allowing three runs on seven hits over five innings to earn the win. The 27-year-old figures to rejoin the big-league club when rosters expand in September.

The Blue Jays reinstated Giles (personal) from the paternity list ahead of Sunday's game against the Mariners.

Toronto optioned right-handed reliever Justin Shafer to Triple-A Buffalo in order to open up a spot for Giles in the bullpen and on the active roster. Giles was only away from the team for three days, so he should immediately step back into the closing role for Toronto, pushing Derek Law to setup duties.

Manaea (shoulder) recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed just two hits and one walk through seven scoreless innings in Triple-A Las Vegas' win over Tacoma on Saturday,

If the Athletics needed one more start out of Manaea to convince them he was ready for activation, then Saturday's fit the bill in every way imaginable. The left-hander worked up to 99 pitches, affirmatively answering any questions about whether his arm is sufficiently stretched out. His swing-and-miss capability was on full display as well, and Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports Manaea could be part of a possible six-man rotation during September, a month in which the Athletics will play 16 consecutive games at one point. "There is a potential for anything," manager Bob Melvin said. "We play seven games, have an off-day, then have 16 in a row. We'll be in September at that time, but that's a pretty long stretch. We'll see. I'm not sure yet."

The Orioles recalled Scott from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.

He'll rejoin the big club after a two-week stint in the minors following John Means' move to the Family Medical Emergency List. Scott will provide the Orioles with another right-handed option out of the bullpen but likely won't be asked to pitch in high-leverage spots after serving up 24 earned runs in 13.1 innings across his prior 10 appearances in the majors this season.

Peters (3-2) took the loss Saturday at Houston after surrendering five runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. He walked two and struck out two.

Peters served up a two-run homer to Michael Brantley and a three-run homer to Alex Bregman before he was pulled in the fifth inning. The 26-year-old has given up 10 runs (nine earned) in his last two outings, and he'll look to get back on track versus the Red Sox next weekend.
