Giles (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Giles has been on the injured list since the end of July due to a right forearm strain, but he's progressed well during his throwing program. If his bullpen session goes well Tuesday, he should throw another bullpen prior to progressing to live batting practice. After his live batting practice, he could enter the conversation to return to the bullpen, assuming everything goes smoothly.

Bass was unavailable Monday when Jordan Romano got the save but is available Tuesday against the Red Sox and manager Charlie Montoyo said he is comfortable with either pitcher saving games, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Romano is the current Jays reliever du jour after Bass held that title a couple weeks ago. It sounds like they both will continue to get save chances in the short term, and Bass could be the guy if a save chance were to arise Tuesday. Ken Giles (forearm) continues to progress and could take the closer's job back sometime in September.

Pearson was diagnosed with a flexor strain and hopes to resume playing catch this weekend, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

This means that the injury is on the inside of the elbow (closest to the body). It's good that the results of Pearson's second opinion did not come with a recommendation of surgery, but it still seems like he is a ways off from returning to game action. Given that he is the Jays' top pitching prospect, they will likely handle him with kid gloves throughout his recovery.

Barria was recalled from the Angels' alternate training site to serve as the 29th man during Tuesday's doubleheader against the Astros.

Barria was sent down Thursday, but he'll return to the team and be available out of the bullpen for the twin bill before he presumably returns to alternate camp. The right-hander made one relief appearance this season, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four over 4.1 innings.

Akin was recalled from the Orioles' alternate training site Tuesday.

The 25-year-old southpaw logged a 4.73 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 131 strikeouts in 112.1 innings at Triple-A last year but gave up three runs in three innings in his first and only MLB outing earlier this year. With Wade LeBlanc (elbow) done for the year, Akin could get some starts or work as a long reliever going forward.

Karinchak struck out two as part of a perfect eighth inning Monday in the Indians' 3-2 loss to the Twins.

After struggling in his initial appearances this season, Brad Hand has been sharp of late to solidify his hold on the Indians' closer job, but Karinchak has nonetheless made a compelling case to warrant a roster spot in deeper mixed leagues thanks to the sterling ratios he's provided in a setup role. Through 14 outings this season, Karinchak has posted a 0.57 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 30:6 K:BB to go with four holds and a save across 15.2 innings. His 53.6 percent strikeout rate is tops among all pitchers who have made more than one appearance this season.

Loup (3-2) took the loss in the Rays' 6-4 defeat at the hands of the Blue Jays on Monday, allowing two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk over one-third of an inning.

The southpaw walked into a one-on, two-out scenario in the seventh and eventually surrendered a three-run home run to Randal Grichuck, which also got Loup charged with his first blown save of the season. The 32-year-old has endured a rocky August after opening the season with three scoreless late-July appearances -- he's now carrying a 5.06 ERA over 10.2 innings during the current month, a figure partly comprised of three home runs allowed.

Hernandez allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three over 1.2 scoreless innings to earn a hold in Monday's 3-2 win over Oakland.

Hernandez has been a vital member of the Rangers' bullpen, posting three relief wins and five holds while pitching to a 1.56 ERA over 17.1 innings. As the 11-17 Rangers consider their selling activity at the trade deadline, one player that could be moved is closer Rafael Montero. If they move him, Hernandez could replace him as the team's closer.

Montero picked up a four-out save in Monday's 3-2 win over the Athletics, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk. He struck out two.

Montero entered the game with two outs in the eighth and got Stephen Piscotty to strike out swinging. He got himself into a jam in the ninth, allowing singles to Tony Kemp and Marcus Semien before walking Ramon Laureano to load the bases with just one out. Fortunately for Montero and the Rangers, he struck out Matt Olson looking and got Matt Chapman to fly out to end the game. The right-hander has six saves on the season to go along with a 3.53 ERA and nine strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched.

Rogers allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth inning Monday, earning the save over Cleveland.

Rogers needed just 11 pitches to roll through the top of Cleveland's lineup, working around a two-out single by Francisco Lindor. It was his first scoreless appearance since Aug. 16, but he's recorded saves in two consecutive days.
