Karinchak was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

The righty allowed three runs without recording an out Friday and has posted a 9.75 ERA In 12 innings dating back to July 22. The demotion is shocking after Karinchak pitched to a 2.67 ERA and 53:16 K:BB in 2020, establishing himself as one of baseball's more dynamic setup relievers. He could find himself back with Cleveland soon enough, assuming he can resolve his command issues and regain some confidence at Triple-A. Bobby Bradley (knee) was activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Patino isn't expected to make his next start until Monday's series opener versus the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

After making his last start Aug. 21, Patino appeared lined up to take the hill during this weekend's series in Baltimore, but the Rays will instead take advantage of their newfound rotation depth and push the 21-year-old right-hander back a couple days in the pitching schedule. Considering that Patino is already up to 81 innings in 2021 between the majors and Triple-A Durham after he tossed only 17.1 innings in 2020, the Rays are likely cognizant of managing the right-hander's workload down the stretch. Given that Patino has been one of the Rays' more reliable starters, he doesn't appear at risk of moving to the bullpen or being shut down just yet, but expect him to receive more time off between outings in light of the emergence of Drew Rasmussen and the return of Chris Archer from the injured list.

Staumont (3-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out two over 1.1 innings, earning the win over Seattle on Friday.

The right-hander returned from a one-day absence on the COVID-19 injured list, and he was able to get out of the 11th inning after Richard Lovelady left two on with two outs. Staumont returned for the 12th to protect a two-run lead, and while he yielded one run on a groundout, he was able to finish off the marathon win. The 27-year-old now has a 3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 59:22 K:BB through 51.1 innings, filling a versatile, high-leverage role out of the bullpen.

Alexander is expected to work as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen behind starter Jose Urena in Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Since Urena is returning from a groin injury that kept him on the 10-day injured list for nearly six weeks and didn't get fully stretched out during his rehab assignment, he's only expected to work a maximum of 2-to-3 innings Saturday. Alexander is expected to then follow Urena and will cover the bulk of the innings in long relief, which should put him in good position to factor into any decision.

Hernandez hurled 5.2 innings in relief against the Mariners on Friday, allowing an unearned run on one hit and no walks while striking out six. He did not factor in the decision.

The right-hander was originally slated to start Saturday's contest against Seattle, but he was instead called upon in relief Friday after starter Kris Bubic made it through just 4.1 frames. Hernandez was nearly unhittable in his 80-pitch appearance, retiring the first 14 hitters he faced before yielding an unearned run when a single and sacrifice fly plated Seattle's designated runner in the 10th inning. The 24-year-old has surrendered just one earned run while striking out 14 over his past 12.2 frames and will almost certainly rejoin the rotation next week.

Young pitched a perfect inning and struck out one to earn a hold in Friday's 4-3 loss to Boston.

The southpaw protected a two-run lead in the seventh inning before James Karinchak melted down in the eighth. The hold was Young's first with Cleveland and his fourth overall through 34 appearances. He's added a 6.51 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, 41:22 K:BB, two blown saves and a 2-6 record across 47 innings this season. Young will likely continue to see mainly low-leverage work to finish the year.

Karinchak (7-4) took the loss Friday versus Boston. He failed to record an out while allowing three runs on two hits and a walk.

Called upon to protect a two-run lead in the eighth inning, Karinchak walked Christian Vazquez and allowed a single to Jarren Duran before Jonathan Arauz went deep. Consistency remains an issue for Karinchak, who has allowed runs in seven of his 18 appearances since the All-Star break. He owns a 4.14 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 77:32 K:BB across 54.1 innings overall, but his recent struggles have led to Emmanuel Clase working more as a full-time closer late. Karinchak has 11 saves, five blown saves and 13 holds in 59 appearances.

Diplan struck out one across two perfect innings in Friday's 6-3 loss to Tampa Bay.

While the right-hander's hot start came to an end when he allowed four earned runs across two appearances spanning 1.1 innings against the Angels, Diplan got back on track Friday. The 24-year-old has a 2.51 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB through 14.1 innings. He's provided multi-inning capabilities out of the bullpen, but he'll likely remain in a low-leverage role for the remainder of 2021.

Manaea (8-9) allowed five runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Yankees.

Manaea cruised through three scoreless innings before the Yankees' bats woke up. He gave up solo homers to Giancarlo Stanton and Luke Voit in the fourth inning and was knocked out of the game after a three-run blast by Aaron Judge in the fifth. Over his last five starts, the 29-year-old owns a 9.90 ERA over 20 innings while giving up eight home runs. Manaea's season ERA is up to 3.97 with a 156:36 K:BB. Still looking for his first win since July, he's projected to take the mound in Detroit next week.

Lopez (3-1) earned the win Friday over the Cubs. He threw five perfect innings and struck out seven.

The right-hander has bounced between the bullpen and the rotation this season. Lopez provided excellent length in a relief assignment after starter Dallas Keuchel was shelled for six runs (five earned) in the first inning of Friday's 17-13 crosstown slugfest. Through 34 innings, Lopez has a 1.59 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB. He still threw just 59 pitches (40 strikes), but the 27-year-old has been an effective innings-eater in the bullpen while holding his own in four starts this year, as he's yet to allow more than three runs in any appearance.
