The Orioles activated Scott (knee) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Alexander Wells was dispatched to Triple-A Norfolk to clear space on the active roster for Scott, who has been sidelined since July 31 with a left knee sprain. Before his brief stint on the IL, Scott had served as a high-leverage reliever for Baltimore, accruing a 3.95 ERA and 1.49 WHIP while collecting 14 holds over 41 frames. Expect him to immediately re-emerge as a factor for the Orioles in the late innings.

Kittredge (8-1) was credited with the win Tuesday against the Red Sox, firing two scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and struck out five.

The veteran right-hander was exceedingly sharp, throwing 26 of 29 pitches for strikes. Kittredge was rewarded for his efforts with his eighth win courtesy of Francisco Mejia's go-ahead ninth-inning single, and he's now posted eight straight scoreless appearances during which he's generated a 2-0 record, 0.93 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB across 9.2 frames.

Patino allowed four earned runs on six hits and three walks while recording seven strikeouts over six innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday. He didn't factor into the decision.

The runs against the young right-hander all stemmed from home runs, with Hunter Renfroe's fourth-inning blast, which came with two aboard, doing most of the damage. Patino has now gone at least six frames in two of his last three starts, but he's also allowed a pair of round trippers in each of his last two trips to the mound. Now sporting a 4.64 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 42.2 innings, Patino will look for better results and his first win since July 29 when he likely takes the hill early next week.

Richards (5-1) earned the win in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Angels after tossing two scoreless innings, walking one and fanning two.

Richards was charged with his first loss of the season July 26 against the Red Sox, but he has been excellent since then and has tossed five straight scoreless appearances, giving up just two hits across 6.1 innings in that span. In fact, Richards has allowed just three runs across 14 innings (12 appearances) since the beginning of July and owns a 1.93 ERA with a 19:5 K:BB in that span.

The Yankees placed Holmes on the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

The club indicated that Holmes is dealing "with symptoms" of the virus, though it's unknown at this point whether he's actually tested positive. Regardless, Holmes will begin a quarantine and will miss time as a result of being placed on the IL. The Yankees called up Brooks Kriske from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move to provide an extra arm in the bullpen ahead of Wednesday's series finale in Kansas City.

Zimmermann (biceps) allowed just two walks over five hitless innings, striking out one and earning the win over Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Zimmermann was literally unhittable in his third rehab start. He has allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits and eight walks across 11 innings in his three rehab starts. It's possible the southpaw could be back with Baltimore as early as Sunday versus Boston if he stays on regular rest.

Staumont (2-2) struck out three and didn't allow a baserunner in 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win versus the Yankees on Tuesday.

The right-hander was called upon to relieve Domingo Tapia to end the sixth inning, and Kansas City pulled ahead in the bottom of the sixth. Staumont has been solid recently with just three hits allowed and seven strikeouts in a scoreless streak that stands at 4.2 innings. He owns a 3.18 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 52:20 K:BB through 45.1 innings. While he's seen late-inning work at times (five saves, five holds), he's typically entered games earlier in recent weeks.

Payamps was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Payamps was recalled Tuesday, but he didn't make his team debut during Tuesday's game against the Yankees. He made 22 relief appearances with the Blue Jays earlier in the year and recorded a 2.70 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 30 innings. The right-hander's demotion will make room for Brady Singer (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's scheduled start.

Lopez will start Wednesday's game against the Twins in Minnesota, Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Over his five seasons with the White Sox, Lopez has picked up 82 starts, but he's found a niche as a high-leverage reliever in his eight appearances out of the bullpen in 2021, logging a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings while limiting opposing hitters to a .146 average. He'll be thrust into starting duty on short notice while the White Sox rejigger their pitching schedule following Carlos Rodon's (shoulder) move to the IL, but expect the White Sox to limit Lopez's workload. He'll be pitching on two days' rest and hasn't covered more than three innings since getting a call-up from Triple-A Charlotte in mid-July, so Lopez shouldn't be expected to go through the Minnesota batting order more than once. Michael Kopech -- who hasn't pitched since Saturday -- could be a candidate to work multiple innings behind Lopez.

Foster was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Foster returned to the minors Friday, but he'll return to the major-league club after Carlos Rodon (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list. The right-hander has made 28 relief appearances for the White Sox this year, and he's posted a 5.64 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 30.1 innings.
