Abreu (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock later in the week, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.

Abreu landed on the 15-day injured list May 3 due to a sprained ankle, and he's continuing to ramp up his activity. He'll likely get a few relief appearances in the minors before being activated.

Romano will not be available to pitch in Monday's game against Seattle and is currently being evaluated by the team's medical staff, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

The location and nature of Romano's injury remain a mystery at this point, and the Blue Jays will excercise caution by holding him out of the series opener. He'll be considered day-to-day until more information becomes available. Adam Cimber could serve as the team's closer if the situation presents itself Monday evening, as he's seen three save chances so far this season.

Karinchak (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Karnichak has been out all year with a strained shoulder. He remains without a clear timetable but will now be ineligible to return before early June. The move clears a 40-man roster spot for Yohan Ramirez, who was acquired in a trade with the Mariners on Monday.

Lopez (back) made a pair of relief appearances during the White Sox's series with the Yankees over the weekend, striking out three over two scoreless frames while allowing one hit and walking none.

Lopez wasn't available for a few days after suffering from lower-back tightness during his prior relief appearance May 9 against the Guardians, but he looks to be back to full strength heading into the White Sox's eight-game week.

Ramirez was traded from Seattle to Cleveland on Monday in exchange for cash considerations.

Ramirez threw 8.1 innings of relief for the Mariners this season, struggling to a 7.56 ERA, before being optioned in late-April and designated for assignment Friday. He'll join Triple-A Columbus with his new organization.

Manager Alex Cora said Monday that Taylor (back) has started a throwing program, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Taylor was pulled off his minor-league rehab assignment earlier this month after suffering a setback in his recovery from a back strain, an injury that dates back to spring training. Boston transferred Taylor to the 60-day injured list last week, which means he won't be eligible to make his 2022 debut with the big club until early June, even if he gets clearance to resume his rehab assignment within the next several days.

Saucedo (hip) was cleared to play catch Monday at the Blue Jays' spring training complex, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

The activity represents the start of a throwing program for Saucedo, who has been on the shelf since April 30 with right hip discomfort. As a reliever, Saucedo won't require as much time as a starter to complete his throwing program, though he's likely at least a week away from heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

Pearson (illness) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday at the Blue Jays' spring training complex, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

Toronto has been building up Pearson slowly since he overcame a bout with mononucleosis in mid-April, as he has yet to advance to facing hitters despite having dealt with no setbacks in his throwing program over the past month. Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca suggests that if Pearson's bullpen session goes well, he'll finally be cleared to throw live batting practice later this week. After that, Pearson could head out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

The Blue Jays recalled Vasquez from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.

The addition of Vasquez gives the Blue Jays another healthy left-handed option out of the bullpen after southpaw Tim Mayza (forearm) was moved to the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Vasquez previously made three relief appearances for Toronto earlier this season, covering 2.1 innings in total and giving up four earned runs on four hits and two waks.

Mayza has been one of baseball's under-the-radar standout setup man this season, accruing seven holds across 15 appearances while submitting a 2.08 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB in 13 innings. He'll be sidelined until at least May 30 with the injury, though the fact that the Blue Jays are labeling his injury as inflammation rather than a strain bodes well for his chances of avoiding an extended absence. Mayza is scheduled to undergo an MRI later this week, which should give the Blue Jays more certainty regarding whether he's dealing with any damage to his forearm beyond the inflammation, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
