Trivino fired 1.1 perfect innings in a loss to the Mariners on Monday, recording two strikeouts.

The right-hander continues to whittle his ERA down after it had ballooned to an unwieldy 12.46 as recently as May 3, as he's now contributed scoreless appearances in five of his last six trips to the mound. Save opportunities are hard to come by on the 17-27 Athletics, and with the emergence of Dany Jimenez (eight saves) as the primary closer, Trivino has lost most of his fantasy appeal for the time being.

Triple-A St. Paul activated Sands (groin) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.

Sands hasn't pitched since May 12 due to a left groin strain, but he'll slot back into the Rochester rotation Tuesday. Over 15.2 innings with the Triple-A club this season, Sands has given up 15 earned runs on 22 hits and five walks while striking out 18.

Payamps tossed 2.1 scoreless innings Monday versus the Diamondbacks. He allowed a hit and a walk while logging two strikeouts.

Payamps was needed in a multi-inning capacity after starter Zack Greinke allowed seven runs in 3.2 innings. In his last four outings, Payamps has tossed 10.2 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and two walks in that span. It's an improvement for him to cut down on the baserunners he's allowed -- the right-hander now sports a 1.31 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB across 20.2 innings overall in 12 appearances.

Sewald earned a save after he pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out a batter in Monday's 7-6 win over the Athletics.

Called upon to protect a one-run lead, Sewald made quick work of the first two batters he faced before Jed Lowrie ripped a two-out single. Things got interesting after Lowrie, the tying-run, advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Sewald was able to get Sean Murphy to ground out to end the contest. The save was the 31-year-old's second of the year in three opportunities. After giving up four runs over two appearances earlier in May, Sewald has now rattled off 5.2 scoreless innings in his last six outings, lowering his season-long numbers to a 2.40 ERA and a microscopic 0.53 WHIP with 15 punchouts in 15 frames this season.

Logue (2-3) got the loss Monday after he tossed 4.2 innings, surrendering seven runs on six hits and four walks while striking out six versus the Mariners.

Logue struggled to keep the ball in the yard in this one, giving up three long balls including a three-run shot to Julio Rodriguez in the third frame. After surrendering just four runs over 17.2 innings of work this season before Monday, the left-hander saw his ERA jump from 2.04 to 3.74 after the start. With Daulton Jefferies (arm) being placed on the 15-day injured list, it's likely that Logue will remain in the starting rotation for the time being. He's tentatively lined up to get a shot to redeem himself Saturday versus the Rangers.

Lopez walked one batter in a scoreless inning and picked up a save over the Yankees on Monday.

Lopez had blown his only two save chances this month but finally recorded his first save since April 23. He lowered his ERA to 1.29 with a 21:13 K:BB through 21 frames. Lopez has allowed one earned run over his last 18.2 innings but he's recorded just four saves during that stretch.

Chafin (0-1) allowed a run on two hits and a walk while retiring just one batter to take the loss Monday against the Twins.

Coming on in the bottom of the ninth inning with the game tied 4-4, Chafin walked leadoff hitter Max Kepler. He then allowed a single to pinch-hitter Kyle Garlick that put runners on the corners, and an infield hit by Gio Urshela with one out gave the Twins a walkoff win. Chafin had gone four straight appearances without allowing a run, and the lefty still owns a tidy 2.89 ERA despite the hiccup, so he should remain a key relief option in Detroit.

Valdez cleared waivers Sunday and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Valdez was designated for assignment by the Angels on Wednesday but will remain in the organization. He pitched in one game during his time with the big club, allowing one run in one inning of work. The veteran had been working as a starter in the minors prior to his call-up, compiling a 3.03 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across five starts covering 35.2 innings.

Merryweather was recalled by the Blue Jays on Monday.

Merryweather was optioned in early May after posting a 6.94 ERA in 11.2 innings, though his 12:1 K:BB and 2.41 FIP told a very different story about his performance. He'll probably handle lower-leverage innings for now, but if his results start to reflect his underlying numbers he could move into a more important role.

Giles (finger) will throw a bullpen session Monday or Tuesday, and her will begin a rehab assignment after that if all goes well, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

Giles suffered an injury to the tendon in his right middle finger shortly before the start of the season, which delayed his return from Tommy John surgery. He's nearly ready to return to game action for the first time since September of 2020, assuming he is indeed cleared to embark on a rehab assignment. Given the length of his absence, Giles' rehab assignment likely won't be a short one, so it's still likely several weeks until he makes his Mariners debut.
