The Tigers will promote Hill from Triple-A Toledo to start the second game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Athletics in Oakland.

A matchup with one of MLB's worst offenses in a favorable venue for pitchers looks like a good spot for Hill, but he'll have the misfortune of going head to head with the Athletics' staff ace, Frankie Montas (shoulder), who will take the mound for the first time since July 3. Before he was demoted to Toledo shortly before the All-Star break, Hill picked up two starts for Detroit and allowed seven earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four over 11 innings.

The Athletics will promote Logue from Triple-A Las Vegas to start the first game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Tigers in Oakland.

Meanwhile, staff ace Frankie Montas (shoulder) will take the hill for the nightcap in what will be his first start since July 3. Even with Montas' return to action, the Athletics may have one spot available in the rotation on a more regular basis for either Logue or Adam Oller, who served as Oakland's No. 5 starter to close out the team's first-half schedule. Logue has turned in a 5.16 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB across 29.2 innings in the majors this season.

The Rays designated Criswell (shoulder) for assignment Tuesday.

The move comes three days after Tampa Bay claimed Criswell off waivers from the Angels. Prior to being claimed, Criswell had resided on the Angels' 60-day injured list due to an inflamed shoulder, but the 25-year-old is seemingly healthy after he made a five-inning rehab start for Double-A Rocket City on July 13. The 25-year-old will likely remain in Tampa Bay's organization as a member of the Triple-A Durham rotation if he goes unclaimed after losing his 40-man roster spot.

The Rays claimed Perdomo (hand) off waivers from the Brewers on Tuesday.

Perdomo has been rehabbing from a hand injury and began an assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League a week ago. The lefty will report to Triple-A Durham and looks like he'll be active right away for the affiliate when the minor-league All-Star break ends. Since he'll get a spot on the Rays' 40-man roster, Perdomo should have the opportunity to make his first MLB appearance of 2022 at some point over the next two months.

The Tigers outrighted Carlton to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Carlton will remain in Detroit's organization after he went unclaimed off waivers upon being designated for assignment Friday. The 26-year-old right-hander has made five appearances with the big club in 2022, covering 8.2 innings while giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits and no walks.

Vargas (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Double-A Akron on Monday.

Vargas has already made seven appearances at Akron while rehabbing in his recovery from April 2021 Tommy John surgery. The right-hander has posted a 5.23 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 8:5 K:BB in 10.1 innings, and he'll stay at the Double-A level as he continues to build back up. He primarily worked as a starter in rookie ball, but he's worked out the bullpen during his rehab.

Borucki (2-0) recorded the win in a victory over the Rangers on Sunday, firing 1.1 scoreless innings during which he issued two walks and recorded a strikeout.

Borucki wasn't at his sharpest and labored a bit as a result, needing 27 pitches to record four outs. However, the southpaw served as an important bridge to the sixth inning after starter Chris Flexen, working on short rest, exited following 76 pitches. Sunday's appearance was the seventh consecutive scoreless effort for Borucki, and he's now recorded a win in two of his last three outings.

Puk (2-1) recorded the win over the Astros on Sunday, allowing one hit and recording a strikeout over a scoreless seventh inning.

The big left-hander was sharp, pounding 16 of his 21 pitches in for strikes while generating his fifth straight scoreless appearance. The streak comes in the immediate wake of Puk's roughest patch during what has been an impressive first half of the season overall, as he'd pitched to a 7.71 ERA across 4.2 innings over four outings between June 25 and July 2.

Mayza (3-0) picked up the win Sunday against the Royals, striking out two batters over 1.2 perfect innings of relief.

The southpaw took over for Jose Berrios with two on and one out in the seventh inning and the score tied 2-2, and he had little trouble shutting down the rally and cruising through the next frame. Mayza then got rewarded for his efforts when Alejandro Kirk launched a game-winning two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth. Mayza has been scored upon only once in his last nine appearances, and he'll take a 2.54 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB through 28.1 innings into the All-Star break.

Jimenez (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday at the Athletics' spring training facility in Arizona and eventually embark on a rehab assignment, Matt Kawahara of The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The right-hander continues a deliberate recovery process that now projects to extend well past a month, considering he went on the injured list June 21. Jimenez has been building up his throwing distance recently and seems to have steered clear of setbacks thus far, but manager Mark Kotsay would only say Jimenez's rehab assignment will commence "when he's ready" as opposed to providing a tangible target date.
