Soto (2-7) allowed an unearned run on one hit across an inning of work to take the loss in Thursday's extra-inning contest against the Guardians.

Soto worked the top of the 10th inning, which meant dealing with the automatic runner on second base, and he allowed the runner to score on a two-out single by Oscar Gonzalez. The Detroit closer has taken losses in two of his last three appearances, though he's in no real danger of losing his job at this point with a 3.10 ERA and 20 saves in 22 chances this season.

Schreiber earned the save over the Orioles on Thursday, allowing one hit while striking out two batters over two scoreless innings.

Schreiber threw 17 of 25 pitches for strikes in the outing and allowed just one baserunner on an infield single with two outs in the ninth inning. The right-hander picked up his fourth save of the season and his first in over a month. With Tanner Houck (back) on the injured list, Schreiber and Garrett Whitlock figure to be Boston's primary ninth-inning options for the time being.

Winckowski tossed 5.2 innings against Baltimore on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters in a no-decision.

Winckowski navigated through five scoreless frames before the Orioles got to him in the sixth. Baltimore put up three runs in the inning, tying the score 3-3 to remove Winckowski from a chance at a third straight victory and ending his push for a quality start. The right-handed rookie nonetheless gave Boston a solid outing, and he's posted a 3.45 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 15.2 innings across his past three starts.

Barlow allowed an earned run on a hit and no walks while striking out two to earn the save Thursday against the White Sox.

Barlow allowed a leadoff homer in the ninth inning, but he managed to maintain the remaining two-run lead to earn his 18th save of the season. He's now allowed at least one earned run in three of his last eight appearances while also taking two losses and blowing a save in that span. However, Barlow has otherwise been consistently excellent this season and still has a 2.32 ERA with a 53:15 K:BB across 52.1 frames.

Shaw struck out two and threw a scoreless 10th inning to earn the save Thursday against the Tigers.

Emmanuel Clase was unavailable to pitch after taking the mound in four of Cleveland's last five games. That gave Shaw the chance to earn his first save of the season. Shaw has a 5.10 ERA across 42.1 innings this season and has surrendered nine earned runs across his last 14 frames.

Hill allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out one across five innings Thursday against the Guardians. He did not factor into the decision.

Hill wasn't particularly sharp, but the Tigers' defense made two separate errors behind him that led directly to runs. He's allowed three or fewer earned runs in five of his seven starts this season but has only a 17:14 K:BB across 31.2 frames. Hill's 4.66 ERA on the campaign is currently being held up by tenuous skills, and he may be out of a spot in the rotation once either Michael Pineda (triceps) or Eduardo Rodriguez (personal) --both are currently on rehab assignments -- is able to return.

Sborz will start Friday's game against the Mariners.

Sborz will lead a bullpen game for the Rangers to open the series against the Mariners. He has thrown two innings in each of his last two appearances and could be in for a similar workload Friday. It's unclear who may follow Sborz into the game, though Taylor Hearn may be available to throw a few innings.

Kelly exited Thursday's game against the Royals due to lightheadedness.

Kelly will be further evaluated to determine the extent of the issue, but he should be considered day-to-day for now. If he's forced to miss additional time, Jake Diekman and Reynaldo Lopez should be candidates to see increased setup work.

Kelly was removed from Thursday's game against the Royals in the bottom of the seventh inning due to an apparent injury, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Kelly dealt with a biceps issue in late July, but it's not yet clear whether his removal from Thursday's matchup was related to that issue. Prior to leaving Thursday's game with a trainer, he allowed a hit and a walk while failing to record a strikeout in one-third of a scoreless inning.

Barria moved to 2-2 on the season after he was credited with the win during his three-inning relief appearance in Wednesday's 5-4 victory over the Athletics in 12 innings. He allowed an unearned run on one hit and no walks while striking out one.

In his last time on the mound Saturday in Seattle, Barria worked 4.2 innings as a starter for the first game of a doubleheader. Though the Angels still had a vacancy in their rotation this week, interim manager Phil Nevin opted to give Touki Toussaint the start, while Barria was available in the bullpen. Barria was able to deliver a strong showing in long relief, and Toussaint (six strikeouts over five shutout innings) likely performed well enough to stick around as the Angels' No. 6 starter for at least one more turn through the rotation.
