Giles (shoulder) made his most recent pair of rehab appearances Tuesday and Wednesday with Triple-A Tacoma, firing two scoreless innings during which he's allowed a hit and a walk while recording one strikeout.

The veteran right-hander has been impressive during his time in the minors save for one hiccup Friday while toiling for High-A Everett. Just as important, Giles pitched well during his first two appearances against a higher level of competition with the Rainiers and did so on back-to-back days, supporting the notion he could be ready for activation as the Mariners begin a three-game series against the Rangers on Friday.

Davidson is scheduled to start Sunday's home game against the Twins, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Despite issuing five walks and allowing six earned runs over four innings in his Angels debut last weekend in Seattle, Davidson will receive a second turn through the rotation. Even dating back to his time with Atlanta earlier this season, Davidson has struggled to consistently find the strike zone, as he posted a 17.6 percent walk rate in 15.1 innings over his other four appearances in the majors prior to being dealt to the Angels at the trade deadline. Until he shows improved control, the left-hander will be difficult to trust as a streaming option in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Pruitt (0-1) took the loss in extra innings against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit over one inning.

Pruitt needed only nine pitches to get through his one frame, but he allowed a go-ahead RBI double to Magneuris Sierra that plated inning-opening runner Steven Duggar with what turned out to be the winning run. The right-hander has had a rocky second half thus far, posting a 9.00 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in four innings across five appearances.

Murfee (3-0) recorded the win over the Yankees on Wednesday despite allowing an earned run on one hit over two-thirds of an inning.

Murfee surrendered a 412-foot home run to Aaron Judge in the seventh inning that extended the Yankees' lead to 3-1 at the time, but he was bailed out when the Mariners rallied in the home half of the frame and held on for the victory. Murfee had only allowed a single earned run over his previous 11 appearances going into Wednesday, so his stumble against Judge aside, the rookie right-hander continues enjoy a very impressive initial big-league tour of duty that includes a 2.36 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and five holds in addition to his trio of victories.

Staumont (3-1) struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the win Wednesday over the White Sox.

Staumont kept the game tied in the top of the seventh inning, and MJ Melendez put the Royals ahead with a solo home run in the bottom of the frame. It's been mixed results for Staumont since he returned from a neck injury in mid-July -- he has allowed six runs over 8.1 innings in his last nine appearances. Overall he's posted a 4.46 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 41:24 K:BB through 34.1 innings overall while adding three saves, five holds and three blown saves. The right-hander's neck injury cost him the primary setup role to Taylor Clarke (oblique), who is now on the injured list himself, which should allow Staumont to re-establish himself in the high-leverage mix.

Shaw (5-2) struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the win Wednesday over the Tigers.

Starter Aaron Civale lasted four innings in his return from a wrist injury, while Shaw was credited with the win for his clean sixth inning. After allowing multiple runs in his last three appearances in July, Shaw has rebounded to begin August with three consecutive scoreless outings. The veteran reliever has a 5.23 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 34:21 K:BB and six holds across 41.1 innings this year, and his inconsistency has kept him relegated to a low-leverage role.

Pivetta (8-9) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in a 8-4 loss against Atlanta. He struck out five.

Aside from a two-out, three-run homer from the struggling Marcell Ozuna, Pivetta held Atlanta in check all night. However, his offense couldn't keep him in the game as he earned his ninth loss of the campaign. Across his last four starts (21.2 innings), Pivetta has allowed 28 hits, 11 runs and eight walks, but he does have 20 strikeouts during that stretch. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday's matchup in Pittsburgh.

Norris will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Friday's game against the White Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Norris mainly pitched out of the bullpen with the Cubs earlier in the season, but since getting released by Chicago and signing with Detroit, he's been building up as a starter at Toledo over the last few weeks. The southpaw will return to the majors ahead of Friday's series opener against the White Sox, and he'll likely have a chance to earn more than one start since several of Detroit's starters are dealing with injuries.

Taylor (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with the Astros' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Taylor has been out with elbow inflammation since early June, but he resumed throwing in late July and has now been cleared to return to game action in the minors. He'll presumably require several rehab appearances before he's in the mix to rejoin the Astros.

Otto pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five in Wednesday's extra-inning win over the Astros. He did not factor into the decision.

Otto allowed one run in the bottom of the second before surrendering a game-tying solo homer to Kyle Tucker in the fourth frame, which knotted the score at 2-2. He was able to pitch a scoreless fifth inning before being removed after the frame. Otto has now allowed at least one home run in five consecutive outings, surrendering six long balls over that stretch. Since returning from the COVID-19-related injured list June 26, the right-hander has posted an inflated 6.12 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 36 strikeouts over 42.2 innings in nine starts.
