  • Miguel Castro RP | CHW

Yankees' Miguel Castro: Side session likely coming Friday

Castro (shoulder) is expected to throw his first bullpen session Friday since landing on the injured list July 16, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

Before he gains clearance to begin mound work, Castro will first throw off flat ground from 65 feet Monday before increasing the distance to 120 feet Tuesday. Since Castro was deactivated retroactively to July 13 and was later moved to the 60-day IL, he won't be eligible to rejoin the Yankees until around mid-September. Prior to suffering the right shoulder strain, the 27-year-old collected eight holds and five wins while posting a 4.00 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 27 innings out of the bullpen.

  • Red Sox's Josh Winckowski: Returning to bigs to start Tuesday

The Red Sox will recall Winckowski from Triple-A Worcester to start Tuesday's home game against the Blue Jays, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Because Winckowski was optioned to Triple-A less than a week ago, the Red Sox will have to place another player on the injured list before the right-hander's return to the big leagues is official. Given that Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) had already been pushed off Tuesday's start, there's a high likelihood that he'll end up going on the IL in a corresponding move. If that's the case, Winckowski could be in store for multiple turns through the rotation as Boston's fifth starter, though it may hinge on how he fares against Toronto. Over his first 12 big-league starts, Winckowski has generated a 5.19 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 36:21 K:BB across 60.2 innings.

  • Nick Anderson RP | ATH

Rays' Nick Anderson: Activated and optioned

The Rays reinstated Anderson (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Durham, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Anderson is healthy again after making a full recovery from the right elbow surgery he underwent last October, but the Rays presumably want him to sharpen his command at Triple-A before bringing him back in the big-league bullpen. Over his eight rehab appearances for Durham prior to being reinstated from the IL, Anderson compiled a 0.88 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB across eight innings but allowed three home runs.

  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Yankees' Lou Trivino: Records final seven outs Sunday

Trivino was credited with the win in Sunday's 4-2 victory over Toronto after striking out one and allowing no hits and one walk over 2.1 innings of relief.

With Scott Effross (shoulder) unavailable and with the Yankees preferring to stay away from Aroldis Chapman after two straight poor outings, Trivino was called upon to finish out Sunday's contest. He entered a 2-2 game in the top of seventh with two outs and the bases loaded and proceeded to coax a groundout from Vladimir Guerrero, then watched as the Yankees plated to runs in the bottom of the seventh to put him in position for the win. Clay Holmes (back) won't be eligible to return from the injured list until next weekend, and with Chapman struggling of late and Effross being banged up, Trivino could find himself in the mix for a save chance or two over the next few days.

  • Cody Morris RP | NYY

Guardians' Cody Morris: Dominating at Triple-A

Morris built up to 61 pitches in his most recent start for Triple-A Columbus and now has a 2.92 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 24:5 K:BB in 12.1 innings at that level.

Fortunately, the talented righty's season wasn't completely lost due to the shoulder injury he suffered in spring training. He still resides on the Guardians' 60-day injured list, and is now seemingly one rehab start away from being ready to help the big-league rotation. It's also possible the Guardians would break Morris in as a long reliever if they elect to keep him in the majors once he's reinstated from the IL.

  • Athletics' Brent Honeywell: Shifting rehab to Las Vegas

Honeywell (elbow), who pitched a total of three innings across two rehab starts with Single-A Stockton last week, will officially shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas beginning Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.

Honeywell worked up to two innings and 31 pitches in his second start for the Ports on Friday night, and he apparently felt no ill effects over the weekend. Consequently, the right-hander will join the Aviators for what should be the final phase of his rehab assignment, and the hitter-friendly conditions of the Pacific Coast League combined with the higher caliber of competition should serve as a solid litmus test as he prepares to eventually return as a reliever at the tail end of the season, per Martin Gallegos of the team's official site.

  • Jose Cuas RP | KC

Royals' Jose Cuas: Charged with second loss

Cuas (2-2) allowed a run on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Sunday versus the Rays.

Zack Greinke left Sunday's game after four innings due to forearm cramping. Cuas was the first reliever to get the ball, but he struggled and allowed an RBI single to Harold Ramirez that gave the Rays a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Since rejoining the major-league roster Aug. 9, Cuas has struggled a bit, surrendering four runs on six hits and three walks across 4.1 innings through six appearances. He now has a 4.00 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 22:17 K:BB while adding a save and nine holds through 27 innings this year.

  • Nick Pivetta RP | SD

Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Strikes out nine Sunday

Pivetta allowed two runs on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out nine over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Sunday.

Both runs against Pivetta came in the first inning. He fell one out short of his third straight quality start, though he also left in line for the loss before Franchy Cordero tied the game at 2-2 in the eighth inning. Pivetta has pitched to a 4.24 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 139:51 K:BB through 142.1 innings through 25 starts this year. The right-hander is projected for a home start versus the Rays next weekend.

  • Cionel Perez RP | NYM

Orioles' Cionel Perez: Snares seventh win

Perez (7-1) pitched a perfect inning and struck out one, earning the win Sunday over the Red Sox.

Perez entered the game after Franchy Cordero took Dillon Tate deep for a game-tying solo home run in the eighth inning. Perez was much sharper, and he became the pitcher of record as the Orioles pulled ahead in their half of the frame. Since the All-Star break, he's given up three runs in 12 innings, all of which came in an Aug. 17 appearance versus the Blue Jays. The southpaw has a 1.67 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 42:17 K:BB through 43 innings while adding one save and 17 holds in a setup role.

  • Felix Bautista RP | BAL

Orioles' Felix Bautista: Allows run but earns save

Bautista gave up a solo home run and struck out one in one inning to earn the save in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Red Sox.

Bautista gave up the solo shot to Xander Bogaerts in the ninth inning, but the Red Sox couldn't build off of it. This was just the second run Bautista's allowed in 8.2 innings in August, and both runs have come via the long ball. He's picked up five of his eight saves this year in that span, and he owns a sterling 1.73 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 68:16 K:BB through 52 innings. He's locked in as the Orioles' closer.
