Akin is starting the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Although manager Brandon Hyde said after the first game of Monday's twin bill that Jordan Lyles (illness) would start, Akin warmed up with starting catcher Robinson Chirinos ahead of the nightcap and will ultimately take the mound for Game 2. Akin hasn't lasted longer than 3.2 innings in any of his appearances this season, so it's possible that he's used as an opener Monday.

The Orioles recalled Zimmermann from Triple-A Norfolk ahead of the second game of Monday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays.

Zimmermann made 13 of his previous 14 appearances with the Orioles this season as a starter, but he'll be rejoining the big club as a long reliever. He'll step in as a multi-inning option in place of Beau Sulser, who was optioned to Triple-A following the Orioles' 7-3 loss in Game 1.

Lawrence was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

Lawrence was called up by the Blue Jays on Thursday, but he didn't make any big-league appearances over the last few days. The right-hander will head back to the minors after Julian Merryweather (oblique) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list ahead of the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

Merryweather was sidelined since June 13 due to a left oblique strain and spent the last month in the minors on a rehab assignment. The right-hander gave up a run (zero earned) on three hits and five walks while striking out 15 in 10.2 innings over 10 rehab appearances and will be available out of the bullpen for the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

Bummer (shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday.

Bummer sustained a left lat strain in mid-June, but he's been throwing off a mound for several weeks and began a rehab assignment last week. The southpaw allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two in two innings over two rehab appearances and has now been cleared to rejoin Chicago's bullpen, where he should factor into some setup duties down the stretch.

The Orioles claimed Reed off waivers from the Dodgers on Monday.

Reed was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Friday when Los Angeles activated Blake Treinen from the 60-day injured list, but the 29-year-old was quickly able to regain a 40-man roster spot with a new organization. Since he still has two minor-league options remaining, Reed could be sent to Triple-A Norfolk rather than joining the Orioles' 28-man active roster right away. Over 10 appearances in the big leagues between the Mets and Dodgers this season, Reed has coughed up nine earned runs on 10 hits and seven walks while striking out eight in 11 innings.

Kelly was reinstated from the paternity list Monday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Kelly will return to Boston's bullpen ahead of Monday's series opener versus the Rays following a three-day absence while with his growing family. The right-hander has appeared in three games since getting called up Aug. 28, surrendering two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four over three innings. Josh Winckowski was optioned to Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move.

The Red Sox optioned Winckowski to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Reliever Zack Kelly (personal) was reinstated from the paternity list and will assume Winckowski's spot on the active roster after the rookie right-hander was summoned from Triple-A to make a spot start Sunday. Winckowski took a no-decision in Boston's 5-2 win over Texas, covering four innings and striking out three while allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks. The Red Sox currently have a vacancy in their rotation with Kutter Crawford (shoulder) recently joining Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) on the injured list, but a favorable schedule will allow Boston to get by with only four starters until at least Sept. 24.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Chapman (leg) is due to resume throwing off a mound this week, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Chapman was placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 27 after he developed an infection in his leg, which stemmed from a tattoo he added to his body a few days prior. The left-handed fireballer was cleared to resume throwing over the weekend and appears to have thus far experienced no setbacks, so he'll take another step forward within a couple days by getting back on the mound. Chapman looks like he has a chance at returning from the IL in the minimum amount of time, but he may have to settle for a setup role out of the bullpen with Clay Holmes having recently returned from the IL to possibly take over as the Yankees' primary closing option.

The Blue Jays recalled Pop from Triple-A Buffalo ahead of Monday's doubleheader with the Orioles.

Pop should be available out of the bullpen for either game of the twin bill, but since he's being designated as the Blue Jays' 29th man, he'll be returned to Triple-A immediately after Monday's contests. After being acquired from the Marlins on Aug. 2, Pop gave up two earned runs while striking out just one batter over 6.2 innings in his seven appearances with Toronto before he was optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 23.
