Pivetta did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits over 6.1 innings against Toronto. He struck out six.

It's the first time Pivetta pitched six or more innings since July 31. Since rejoining the Red Sox rotation earlier this month, he's gone 0-2 with a 4.41 ERA and 21 strikeouts in three starts covering 16.1 innings. The 30-year-old Pivetta will likely finish out the season as a starter with James Paxton (knee) sidelined. He's currently slated for a home matchup with the White Sox in his next outing.

Silseth (concussion) is making a rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

The right-hander continues to work his way back from the concussion he suffered on a cross-infield throw in late August, and his return to game action is a strong indication he's close to rejoining the Angels. If he requires only the one rehab start, Silseth could be back in the Halos' rotation next weekend in Minnesota.

Herget will start Sunday's game against the Tigers, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Scheduled starter Reid Detmers was scratched due to an illness Sunday, so Herget will end up serving as an opener. Kenny Rosenberg will enter after Herget works an inning or two.

Rosenberg is expected to pitch behind opener Jimmy Herget against the Tigers on Sunday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Rosenberg lined up to pitch during the upcoming three-game set against the Rays, but he'll instead take the mound Sunday after Reid Detmers was scratched with an illness. The 28-year-old Rosenberg has a 4.50 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 15:10 K:BB across 18 innings this season.

The Athletics transferred Tarnok (hip) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

Tarnok underwent surgery on his right hip in late August, effectively ending his season. As such, the move to the 60-day injured list doesn't affect Tarnok's timeline for a return, though it creates an open spot on the 28-man active roster for Joe Boyle, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Padres.

Newcomb was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a sprained left knee.

Newcomb's move to the IL most likely spells an end to his season. After getting a call-up from Triple-A Las Vegas in late August, Newcomb made seven appearances (two starts) with Oakland, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB in 15 innings. In a corresponding move, the Athletics selected Joe Boyle's contract from Triple-A in advance of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Padres.

McArthur (1-0) struck out two over 1.1 perfect innings to earn the win Saturday over the Astros.

Collin Snider surrendered a game-tying home run to Jose Altuve, but McArthur was able to prevent the Astros from pulling ahead in the seventh inning. The Royals gained the lead in their half of the frame, and McArthur wound up with his first big-league win. While he's had a couple of rough outings this year, the right-hander has allowed just one hit while striking out seven over 8.2 scoreless innings since he was recalled from Triple-A Omaha when rosters expanded at the start of September.

Bautista (elbow) threw a bullpen session Sunday in Baltimore, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

It was his first mound workout since he was diagnosed three weeks ago with a partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow. Bautista appeared to be using his entire arsenal, per Ruiz, which is another encouraging development as the 28-year-old aims to return to the Orioles' active roster prior to the end of the regular season. Yennier Cano has been filling in as the O's primary closer.

Mata (shoulder) was activated from the minor-league injured list Sunday at Triple-A Worcester, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Mata is finally ready to return to the mound after missing about four months because of right shoulder inflammation. The 24-year-old had posted a 5.61 ERA through 25.2 innings (seven starts) for Worcester prior to the lengthy IL stint.

Schreiber allowed one run on two hits over one inning and blew the save in Saturday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to Toronto.

For Boston's first save opportunity since closer Kenley Jansen (illness) landed on the COVID-19-related injured list, Red Sox manager Alex Cora brought in Schreiber to close. The right-hander should have survived with a save, but center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela misplayed a Daulton Varsho liner, turning a potential game-ending out into a triple, which plated the tying run. Schreiber entered the game following Chris Martin, who is also in the mix for saves while Jansen works his way back.
