Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Rehab likely to go through weekend

Manager Mike Shildt said Thursday that Carpenter (foot) will likely remain on a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis "through the early part of the weekend," Jeff Jones of MLB.com reports.

Shildt's comments suggest that it's unlikely Carpenter will be activated from the 10-day injured list until at least Sunday's series finale versus the Astros. With an off day to follow Monday, the Cardinals may be motivated to wait until early next week to bring the third baseman back, ensuring that he gets some extra time to recuperate before rejoining the big club. Carpenter kicked off his rehab assignment Tuesday and has played both of the past two days, going a combined 0-for-6 at the plate while manning the hot corner for 12 total innings.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Homers in loss

Turner went 3-for-4 with a home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels.

Turner led off the fourth inning with a 417-foot solo shot off Jaime Barria following an eight-pitch at-bat to get the Dodgers on the board. It was his 99th career long ball with Los Angeles, as the veteran third baseman continues to heat up in the second half. Overall this season, Turner is hitting .296/.380/.478 with 14 home runs, 59 runs scored and 41 RBI.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Racking up free passes

Turner went 0-for-2 with three walks and a run scored Tuesday in the Dodgers' 5-4 loss to the Angels.

Turner has only managed one hit over his last four starts, but he's drawn seven walks during that stretch to keep his on-base percentage afloat. The 34-year-old's .376 OBP remains roughly in line with what he's supplied over the past couple of seasons, but a downturn in his slugging percentage has limited him to an .841 OPS, his second-worst showing in the category since joining the Dodgers in 2014.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Dickerson is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Cubs.

Dickerson is hitting .455 with two home runs and just five strikeouts over his last 10 games (33 at-bats). Mike Yastrzemski will start in left field and hit sixth.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Phillies' Brad Miller: Lands on IL with hip injury

The Phillies placed Miller on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right hip flexor strain.

Miller likely picked up the injury at some point during Tuesday's 15-inning win over the Tigers, when he came off the bench late in the contest and made a pivotal defensive play to wipe out a potential go-ahead run by Detroit. The Phillies activated Sean Rodriguez (abdomen) from the IL in a corresponding move, and he'll essentially fill the utility role that Miller had occupied prior to getting hurt.

  • Bryce Harper DH | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: Receives day off

Harper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Though the Phillies have the designated hitter spot available in Detroit, manager Gabe Kapler decided to give Harper a true day of rest following Tuesday's 3-2 win in 15 innings. Harper, who will bow out of the lineup for the first time since June 12, will be replaced in the outfield by Adam Haseley.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Swats sixth homer

Dickerson went 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Cubs.

After sitting out two games with some mild tightness in his oblique, Dickerson returned to action and looked to be 100 percent. He's now slashing .351/.406/.691 through 37 games with six homers and 24 RBI.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Hitless in first rehab game

Carpenter (foot) went 0-for-2 with a run and a walk in Triple-A Memphis' loss to New Orleans on Tuesday.

Carpenter started at third base and played seven innings in the field before being pinch hit for in the home half of the frame. The veteran infielder is slated for two more games with the Redbirds before a likely activation Friday.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Marlins' Harold Ramirez: Cranks solo homer

Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the White Sox.

Ramirez took Dylan Covey deep in the fifth inning to to record his fifth home run of the season. He's been mired in a slump of late, recording just four hits and whiffing six times in his last 20 at-bats. Still, he's earned at-bats atop the Marlins' lineup, giving him some decent upside to score runs. He's now hitting .279/.316/.402 across 231 plate appearances for the campaign.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Ready to roll

Dickerson (oblique) is starting in left field and batting fourth Tuesday against the Cubs.

Dickerson was held out of Monday's matchup due to tightness in his right oblique, but he'll be right back in the starting nine for the second game of the series. He's hitting .522 with a home run and six RBI over his last seven contests.
