Twins rookie OF Byron Buxton to join Rochester in rehab Friday
The premier prospect in the sport could be returning to the Twins soon. Outfielder Byron Buxton, who has been out since spraining his left thumb on a head-first slide in late June, is tentatively scheduled to join Triple-A Rochester on Friday.
He will remain with the team for at least a road series against Buffalo before rejoining Minnesota.
"He's doing well," Paul Molitor told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "I don't want to say he's 100 percent, but he's doing everything."
The Twins are hoping he hits better upon his return to the Twins. Buxton batted just .189 in his first stint with the team, but did manage five hits in his last four games before going down.

Brantley's two singles extended his hitting streak to nine straight games. He's hitting .364 over the streak.

Athletics OF Josh Reddick scratched with back tightness
Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick will miss Tuesday's game while dealing with lower back tightness after being expected to return to the starting lineup, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Reddick missed Monday's game with the same injury and was hoping to return to the lineup Tuesday. Manager Bob Melvin said he didn't feel 100 percent before the game started. Mark Canha will take his place in right field.

Tigers RF J.D. Martinez back in action Sunday in Baltimore
The scare is over - Tigers right fielder J.D. Martinez is fine for Sunday against the host Orioles.
Martinez appeared more seriously hurt when he fouled a pitch off his knee in the second inning Saturday and was removed from the game. But x-rays came back negative and he is ready to roll having hit safely in seven of his last eight full games.

Tigers RF J.D. Martinez leaves Saturday game with injury
Tigers right fielder J.D. Martinez left Saturday's game against the Orioles in the third inning with an apparent knee injury.
Martinez fouled a ball off of his knee during an at-bat in the second inning, and was subsequentley lifted for defensive replacement in the third.
Martinez underwent X-rays which came back negative. He was diagnosed with a left knee contusion and is considered day-to-day.

Mets trade for LF Yoenis Cespedes from Tigers
The Mets have traded for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes from the Tigers in exchange for two minor leaguers. The deal was agreed to just prior to the 4pm trade deadline on Friday.
The Mets are sending minor league pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Sessa, according to the New York Post.
Cespedes will be an immediate impact in the Mets' offense, which is among the worst in Major League Baseball. He was batting .293 with 18 home runs for the Tigers this season.

Surrounded by trade rumors, Tigers left fielder Yoenis Cespedes went 3 for 5 with two singles and a two-run home run in Thursday's 9-8 win over the Orioles.
Cespedes belted his 18th home run of the season with two outs in the fourth to cap a five-run inning for Detroit.
Cespedes, who could be dealt prior to Friday's 4pm trade dealine, is batting .325 with five home runs and nine RBI over his last 10 games.

Twins center fielder Byron Buxton is progressing from the thumb injury that landed him on the 15-day disabled list, as he has begun to take batting practice, according to the Star Tribune.
Buxton will continue to take batting practice this week and then progress to participating in on-field pregame drills. If he has no set backs, Buxton could begin a rehab assignment as early as next week.

Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was on the field taking batting practice Monday, reports the Detroit Free Press.
Cabrera is on the disabled list with a calf injury. He has been cleared to take part in light baseball activities and is expected to remain out of the lineup until late August.
