Joc Pederson DH | TEX
Rangers' Joc Pederson: Sitting against left-hander
Pederson is absent from the lineup for Monday's game versus the Cubs.
The Rangers are facing a left-hander in Justin Steele for just the second time this season, which means Pederson will begin the contest on the bench. Jonah Heim is starting at designated hitter and Kyle Higashioka is doing the catching for the series opener.

Rafael Devers 3B | SF
Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Impressive in doubleheader
Devers combined to go 5-for-8 with a home run, two doubles, five RBI, five runs scored and two walks in Sunday's doubleheader against St. Louis.
Devers went 1-for-4 with his first long ball of the year and drew a game-tying walk in the ninth inning in Game 1 of the doubleheader before catching fire with a 4-for-4 performance in Game 2. After a historically bad start to the 2025 campaign, Devers is beginning to look like himself again; over his last five games, he's gone 10-for-19 (.526) with four extra-base hits and a 5:2 BB:K. Devers was in an 0-for-19 rut but has already boosted his slash line to .263/.404/.421 with his recent hot streak.

Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Launches clutch homer
Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI in Sunday's 9-7 extra-inning win over the Twins.
Alvarez delivered the first run of the game for Houston in the top of the first inning, driving in Jose Altuve from third base on a sacrifice fly. The 27-year-old later added a single in the top of the fifth before launching a game-tying two-run homer in the ninth, knotting the game up at 7-7. The home run was Alvarez's first of the season, and he's now batting .182 with the long ball, seven RBI, four walks and 11 strikeouts over 33 at-bats in nine games.

Nick Maton DH | CHW
White Sox's Nick Maton: On bench Sunday
Maton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
Maton will take a seat Sunday after he had started each of the last four games at either designated hitter or first base. He owns an .818 OPS over 22 plate appearances so far this season and should have a regular spot in the lineup versus right-handed pitching so long as he continues to swing a hot bat.

Ben Rice 1B | NYY
Yankees' Ben Rice: Idle Sunday
Rice is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.
The left-handed-hitting Rice had started each of the past six games, but he'll take a seat Sunday for the matinee contest while the Pirates send a lefty to the bump in Andrew Heaney. Aaron Judge will get a day off from defensive duties and serve as the Yankees' designated hitter in Rice's stead.

Luke Raley RF | SEA
Mariners' Luke Raley: Sitting against southpaw
Raley isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants.
Raley and his .572 career OPS against left-handers will stay put in the dugout for the beginning of Saturday's game, as Robbie Ray is due to toe the slab for San Francisco. Cal Raleigh will serve as Seattle's designated hitter while Raley sits, allowing Mitch Garver to start behind the plate and bat fifth.

Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Taking seat Saturday
O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Kansas City.
After going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts and a run scored over his last two games, O'Hearn will begin Saturday's contest on the bench. His absence opens up a spot in the lineup for Ramon Urias to start at third base and bat seventh.

Ben Rice 1B | NYY
Yankees' Ben Rice: Logs steal for second straight game
Rice went 1-for-4 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Pirates.
Rice has hit safely in five of seven games to begin the season, and he's recorded a steal in each of the last two contests. The 26-year-old was caught on his only attempt at swiping a bag in 2024, but he's apparently making an effort to get more involved on the basepaths this season, especially when he's hitting leadoff as he has over the last two games. He's batting .350 with two home runs, two doubles, two RBI and seven runs scored over 25 plate appearances so far this season.
