  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Receiving Sunday off

Stephenson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

Stephenson started the previous six games but will take a seat Sunday after going 3-for-20 with two doubles, an RBI, three runs and 10 strikeouts during that stretch. Jose Trevino will step in behind the plate to catch for Nick Lodolo in the series finale.

  • Cubs' Reese McGuire: Called up as Amaya replacement

The Cubs selected McGuire's contract from Triple-A Iowa, and he'll start behind the plate against the Reds on Sunday.

McGuire signed a minor-league deal with the Cubs in January and has spent the entire season at Iowa, slashing .282/.366/.465 with three home runs and two stolen bases in 21 games. He'll be joining the Cubs as a replacement for Miguel Amaya (oblique), who was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Carson Kelly will likely see the bulk of the playing time behind the dish for Chicago in Amaya's absence, though McGuire could be in store for a start or two per week.

  • Miguel Amaya C | CHC

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Goes on IL

The Cubs placed Amaya (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Amaya suffered a left oblique strain during Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Reds. He'll be eligible to rejoin the big club June 4, but given the nature of the injury, he will most likely be out beyond the minimum 10 days. The Cubs called up Reese McGuire from Triple-A Iowa to provide another option behind the plate, but Carson Kelly is likely to see the bulk of the starts at catcher while Amaya is on the shelf.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Getting day off

Ruiz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Ruiz will get a much-needed break after he had started at catcher in each of the Nationals' last eight games. Riley Adams will fill in for Ruiz behind the dish Sunday for just the ninth time all season.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Resting up Sunday

Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bailey will get a breather after he had started behind the dish in each of the Giants' last four games. Sam Huff will handle catching duties Sunday.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Goes deep in loss

Kelly went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Reds.

Kelly entered the contest in the fifth inning for Miguel Amaya, who suffered an oblique strain on a throw to second base. Amaya will be headed to the injured list, which paves the way for Kelly to see even more playing time. He's sporting a stellar 1.037 OPS to go along with nine home runs in 32 games.

  • Miguel Amaya C | CHC

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Set to go on IL

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said after Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Reds that Amaya will be placed on the 10-day injured list due to left oblique strain, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

He was removed in the fifth inning of Saturday's game after suffering the injury while throwing to second base on an Elly De La Cruz steal attempt. Amaya will return to Chicago to undergo further testing and determine the severity of the strain, but the 26-year-old backstop could be facing a lengthy stint on the IL. Moises Ballesteros will likely be recalled from Triple-A Iowa to serve as the backup catcher behind Carson Kelly while Amaya is recovering from his injury.

  • Rob Brantly C | MIA

Marlins' Rob Brantly: Moved to 60-day IL

The Marlins transferred Brantly (lat) to the 60-day injured list Saturday.

Brantly landed on the injured list April 21 with a strained right lat, and moving to the 60-day IL will ensure he remains out until at least late June. He'll concede his spot on the 40-man roster to Janson Junk, who was selected to the active roster Saturday.

  • Miguel Amaya C | CHC

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Exits with trainer

Amaya was removed from Saturday's game against the Reds due to a left oblique strain, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Amaya had to come out of the game after throwing to second base on an Elly De La Cruz steal attempt. The 26-year-old backstop has been splitting time fairly evenly behind the plate with Carson Kelly, though the latter could take on an everyday role if Amaya's injury forces him onto the injured list.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Sitting out Saturday

Alvarez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

Alvarez will get a chance to rest Saturday after going 0-for-5 with a walk and two strikeouts in Friday's 13-inning loss. Luis Torrens will take his place at catcher and bat sixth.
