  • Dodgers' Yasmani Grandal: Sits again Wednesday

Grandal is out of the lineup for the second day in a row Wednesday against the Padres.

Austin Barnes will make his second straight start and his third start in four games. Grandal has now sat against the last seven lefties the Dodgers have faced, including Joey Lucchesi on Wednesday. Grandal is a switch hitter, but he does have a platoon split, posting a 119 career wRC+ against righties compared to a 103 wRC+ against lefties. The right-handed Barnes has a similar split in the opposite direction (118 wRC+ against lefties and 98 wRC+ against righties), so it would make sense for the platoon to continue moving forward.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Contreras is out of the lineup against the Giants on Wednesday.

Contreras will take a seat after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during Tuesday's victory. Victor Caratini will set up behind the plate and catch Mike Montgomery during the series finale.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Hits fourth homer Tuesday

Hedges went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers.

The catcher's fifth-inning blast ended up being the difference, as the Padres went on to win by a 4-1 margin. Though Hedges just got over the Mendoza Line for the first time all season with Tuesday's two-hit day, he's been showing signs of turning it around of late. Since the start of July, he's hitting .368 (7-for-19) with a double, two homers and five RBI.

  • Dodgers' Yasmani Grandal: Sitting Tuesday

Grandal is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Padres, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

He will sit for the second time in the last four games, in part because southpaw Eric Lauer is toeing the rubber for the Padres. Austin Barnes will start behind the dish and hit eighth.

  • Tom Murphy C | SF

Rockies' Tom Murphy: Back from paternity list

Murphy was reinstated from the paternity list Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Murphy missed the Rockies' weekend series against the Mariners while attending the birth of his child. He's back with the team Tuesday but will be on the bench, with Chris Iannetta starting behind the plate.

  • Mets' Devin Mesoraco: Takes seat for Game 2

Mesoraco is situated on the bench for the second half of Monday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Mesoraco collected a base knock in Game 1, but he'll get the second game off. Kevin Plawecki will handle the catching duties and bat sixth in his stead.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Taking seat Monday

Hedges is out of Monday's lineup against the Dodgers.

He will sit for the fifth time in the last 14 games, and is hitting .258 with one home run over that stretch. A.J. Ellis will start behind the dish and hit eighth.

  • Chad Wallach C | ATH

Marlins' Chad Wallach: Brought back to big leagues

Wallach was called up to Miami on Monday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

The Marlins need a second catcher with J.T. Realmuto on the paternity list. Wallach will likely be stuck behind Bryan Holaday and will probably only be up for a short period of time, as Realmuto will be out for at most three games.

  • Marlins' J.T. Realmuto: Heads to paternity list

Realmuto was placed on the paternity list Monday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Players on the paternity list miss between one and three games, so Realmuto will be back Friday against the Phillies at the latest. Chad Wallach was called up to take his place on the roster and will back up Bryan Holaday until Realmuto returns.

  • Marlins' J.T. Realmuto: Rips five hits against Nationals

Realmuto went 5-for-6 with a pair of runs and three RBI to help the Marlins to a 10-2 victory over the Nationals on Sunday.

Realmuto continued his red-hot hitting with this monster effort. He now has a brilliant .317/.368/.551 slash line and seems to have firmly established himself as one of the best-hitting catchers in baseball coming off last year's solid campaign, in which he logged a .783 OPS.
