  • Taylor Davis C | PIT

Cubs' Taylor Davis: Delivers grand slam

Davis went 1-for-3 with a grand slam in a 6-5 win over the Cardinals on Saturday.

Davis, who was called up Friday from Triple-A Iowa, brought the Cubs back from a 5-1 deficit with his fourth-inning shot off Michael Wacha. The 29-year-old has only received 23 major-league at-bats spread over three seasons and the home run was the first of his career. He is expected to serve as the team's No. 2 catcher during Victor Caratini's absence.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Out of Saturday's lineup

Barnes is not in Saturday's lineup against the Padres, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

After slumping for a couple weeks in the middle of April, Barnes is 6-for-20 (.300) with two home runs in his last six games. Russell Martin will start at catcher, hitting sixth.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Out of Saturday's lineup

Contreras is not in Saturday's lineup against the Cardinals.

Contreras has two home runs in his last four games and is hitting .353 in 17 at-bats over that stretch. Taylor Davis will start behind the dish, hitting eighth.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Heads to bench

Gomes is not starting Friday against the Phillies.

Gomes started seven of the last 10 games prior to Friday's contest. Kurt Suzuki will take over behind the plate.

  • Brewers' Yasmani Grandal: Sitting for day game

Grandal is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Grandal will receive some rest after starting each of the Brewers' last three games at catcher. Manny Pina checks in behind the plate and will work in a battery with Freddy Peralta.

  • Padres' Francisco Mejia: Back to bench

Mejia is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Braves.

Mejia was behind the plate Tuesday and Wednesday, the first time all season he has received consecutive starts. With five strikeouts in seven at-bats between those contests, Mejia didn't capitalize on the opportunity and still looks to be the Padres' No. 2 backstop behind Austin Hedges.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Goes deep in blowout win

Contreras went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 11-0 win over the Mariners.

The Cubs' lineup has been clicking lately, and Contreras has been right in the middle of the attack, as he now has eight home runs and 19 RBI this season. The 26-year-old catcher had just 10 home runs and 54 RBI in a down 2018 campaign, and he looks well on his way to shattering those marks in 2019.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Grabs breather

Barnes is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Giants.

Barnes will take a seat for Wednesday's series finale after starting the previous two games behind the dish, going 2-for-8 with a double and two RBI in those contests. Russell Martin is starting at backstop and hitting sixth in this one.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Sits again Wednesday

Hedges remains on the bench Wednesday against the Braves, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Hedges finds himself on the bench in consecutive games for the first time this season. Francisco Mejia draws another start despite going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in Tuesday's contest.

  • Padres' Francisco Mejia: Draws start Tuesday

Mejia is in the lineup, catching and hitting eighth against the Braves on Tuesday.

Austin Hedges will head to the bench to make way for Mejia. The 23-year-old has appeared in 13 games so far this season, hitting a meager .158 in 38 at-bats.
