  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Takes seat Wednesday

Hedges is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Hedges is hitting just .154/.267/.154 through eight appearances this month, so he'll take a seat for Wednesday's series finale as he looks to clear his head. Austin Allen is starting behind the dish and hitting sixth in place of Hedges in this one.

  • Cubs' Victor Caratini: Could return before weekend

Caratini (hand) will probably be activated from the 10-day injured list in the next day or two, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Caratini has appeared in nine minor-league rehab games thus far, going 8-for-30 (.267) with a pair of doubles and a 3:4 BB:K in those contests. He should reclaim his role as the team's backup catcher once healthy, likely sending Taylor Davis back to the minors. Prior to landing on the shelf, Caratini was 8-for-14 with a homer, three doubles and five RBI in six games.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Heads to bench

Barnes is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Padres, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Barnes is hitting just .179/.258/.357 with a homer and a steal in 10 games since the start of May, so he'll take a seat for Wednesday's series finale as he looks to hit the reset button. Russell Martin is starting behind the dish and hitting eighth in this one.

  • Brewers' Yasmani Grandal: Takes seat Wednesday

Grandal is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies.

With a day game on the docket for Thursday, Grandal will get Wednesday night off while Manny Pina sets up behind the dish. The 30-year-old Grandal has collected hits in four of the past five games (all starts), going 6-for-19 (.316) with a homer and six RBI during that stretch.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Gets breather

Contreras is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Reds.

Contreras has started the last four games behind the dish for the Cubs, going 5-for-18 with a homer and three RBI during that stretch. In his stead, Taylor Davis is catching Yu Darvish and hitting eighth.

  • Brewers' Yasmani Grandal: Blasts three-run shot

Grandal went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer Tuesday against the Phillies.

Grandal led off the scoring for the Brewers in the second inning with his seventh home run of the season. The homer was his first since April 22 and just his second extra-base hit in that span. Despite that poor stretch, he's still batting .265/.353/.455 across 153 plate appearances for the campaign.

  • Cubs' Victor Caratini: Posts three hits in rehab game

Caratini (hand) went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Iowa on Monday.

Caratini has now made three appearances at Triple-A after concluding a five-game rehab stint with Low-A South Bend. It's unclear how many more games Caratini may need before rejoining the big league club, but it would appear he's getting close.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Doubles home two

Realmuto went 1-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Royals.

Realmuto doubled home two runs in the fifth inning, giving the Phillies a three-run cushion to work with. He's pieced together a modest three-game hitting streak and is now slashing .269/.331/.418 with four home runs and 24 RBI over 37 contests in 2019.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Benched after three straight starts

Barnhart is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Barnhart is getting a routine breather after drawing three consecutive starts. Curt Casali will check in for Barnhart behind the plate and bat seventh in the series finale.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Resting Sunday

Hedges is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Austin Allen will make his first career start in the big leagues while Hedges receives some routine maintenance in the series finale. With a pair of base knocks in Saturday's 4-3 win, Hedges put his five-game hitless streak to an end.
