  • Elias Diaz C | KC

    Rockies' Elias Diaz: Sitting Wednesday

Diaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports.

After he was behind the plate for each of the Rockies' last three games, Diaz will cede catching duties to Dom Nunez in the series finale. With Diaz having homered in back-to-back games and recorded at least one hit in four straight contests, he appears to have solidified his spot atop the depth chart for the time being.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Goes deep again Tuesday

Diaz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in an 8-0 victory over Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

The backstop crushed a 451-foot solo shot to center field in the fifth inning for his fourth homer of the season. Three of those long balls have come in his past eight games, including two in the past two days. The sudden power surge has helped Diaz get the majority of starts behind the dish of late, as fellow catcher Dom Nunez is hitting only .135 in June and hasn't homered since May 1.

  • Miguel Amaya C | CHC

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Sidelined by injury

Amaya (undisclosed) is on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Tennessee, Russell Dorsey of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The specifics of the issue remain unclear, though the young catcher has been on the shelf since early June. Amaya was hitting .215/.406/.304 with one homer, four doubles, 13 RBI, 11 runs and two stolen bases in 23 games for the Smokies prior to the injury.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Slugs three-run homer

McCann went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk Tuesday against Atlanta.

McCann provided the game-tying blast in the seventh inning, ending Charlie Morton's outing. It was McCann's seventh home run of the season and first since hitting four home runs in a seven-game span between May 29 and June 6. Overall, he has a .240/.300/.382 line with 16 runs and 28 RBI across 223 plate appearances.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Not in lineup

Narvaez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs.

Narvaez's off days typically come against lefties, but he'll get a rest here against righty Zach Davies. Manny Pina takes over behind the plate in his absence.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: On bench against lefty

Barnhart will sit against southpaw Blake Snell and the Padres on Tuesday.

Barnhart hasn't started against a lefty all season, so it's no surprise he'll hit the bench here. Tyler Stephenson takes over behind the plate as usual.

  • Tomas Nido C | DET

Mets' Tomas Nido: Begins rehab assignment

Nido (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Nido will be eligible to return from the injured list Friday. The Mets have yet to officially announce his expected return date, but a minimum-length stay appears to be a possibility.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Smacks 10th home run

Smith went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 3-2 win over the Giants on Monday.

Smith blasted his fourth-inning homer off Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani to extend Los Angeles' lead to 3-1 and provide valuable insurance in a game where runs were difficult to come by. The long ball snapped an 0-for-8 mini-slump for the backstop, who's now slashing .261/.363/.478.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Belts third homer

Diaz went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 2-0 victory over the Pirates.

Diaz handed the Rockies an insurance run in the fifth inning with a solo home run to center. He's typically not a huge power threat, but he's now hit safely in three straight games and is batting .300 with two homers and three RBI over his last seven contests.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Takes seat Monday

Contreras isn't starting Monday's game against the Brewers.

Contreras will get a day off after he went 0-for-10 with seven strikeouts across the last three games. Jose Lobaton will start at catcher and bat eighth.
