  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Heating up

Moreno went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-4 extra-innings loss to the Brewers.

Moreno plated Arizona's first run as part of a three-run third inning that erased Milwaukee's early 3-0 lead. He's been one of the Diamondbacks' hottest hitters of late, batting .357 (25-for-70) over the last 20 contests.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Activated from IL

The Padres reinstated Campusano (toe) from the injured list Friday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

With Freddy Fermin (head) landing on the injured list Friday, Campusano will return to the active roster to replenish San Diego's catcher depth. The 27-year-old backstop has been on the shelf since May 7 with a fractured toe, but he was cleared to begin playing in rehab games Tuesday and subsequently went 2-for-6 with two walks, a homer and an additional RBI. He and Rodolfo Duran will likely split starts behind the dish until Fermin is healthy.

  • Padres' Freddy Fermin: Lands on IL

The Padres placed Fermin on the 10-day injured list Friday with a head bruise, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

It appears Fermin avoided a concussion after taking a foul tip off his mask Thursday, but he will ultimately still have to spend time on the IL, and the timing of the injury means he will be on the shelf through the All-Star break. Luis Campusano (toe) was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move and will presumably split reps behind the plate with Rodolfo Duran for the remainder of the first half.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Resumes hitting, throwing

Manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Smith (neck) began hitting in the cages Thursday and has also begun throwing, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Smith has been on the injured list since June 11 with neck inflammation and isn't expected to return before the All-Star break, but his return to hitting and throwing are both good signs that he's finally starting to turn a corner in his recovery. He will almost certainly require a minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining the active roster.

  • Padres' Freddy Fermin: Absent Friday

Fermin (head) isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

Fermin was pulled from Thursday's game after taking a foul tip off his mask in the fifth inning, and he'll remain on the bench to begin Friday's contest. Rodolfo Duran will fill in as the Padres' catcher and bat ninth.

  • Joe Mack C | MIA

    Marlins' Joe Mack: Sitting Friday

Mack isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

Mack will get a chance to rest during Friday's series opener after going 3-for-12 with two homers and four RBI during Miami's four-game set in Colorado. Liam Hicks will start behind the plate with Mack on the bench, moving Owen Caissie into the DH spot and allowing Heriberto Hernandez to start in the outfield.

  • Giants' Drew Cavanaugh: Fifth straight start versus righty

Cavanaugh will start at catcher and bat ninth in Friday's game versus the Rockies.

The Giants have faced five right-handed pitchers since Cavanaugh's promotion last week, and the lefty-swinging catcher has started all of them. Righty hitter Eric Haase has started both contests against lefties during that span, and it appears the two backstops will form a strict platoon while Daniel Susac (back) is shelved.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: In midst of rehab stint

Campusano (foot) began a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday and has gone 2-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and a 2:2 BB:K through two games.

Prior to beginning the rehab assignment, Campusano hadn't logged game action since he fouled a ball off his left foot and suffered a fractured toe May 5. He's worked behind the plate in each of his contests with El Paso, but San Diego may want him to get in a few more outings before activating him given the length of his absence. With that said, Freddy Fermin is being evaluated for a concussion after taking a foul tip off his mask against the Dodgers on Thursday, which could create more urgency for Campusano to rejoin the big-league roster.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Reds' Jose Trevino: Clouts first homer

Trevino went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Brewers.

Trevino changed the complexion of the game in the fourth inning, when he took one of MLB's best pitchers, Jacob Misiorowski, deep for a two-out shot that barely cleared the fence. It was the first homer of the season for the backup catcher, who last homered in June of 2025. He entered the contest with a .192 batting average on the season but since coming off the injured list June 14, Trevino's gone 9-for-27 (.333) over eight games.

  • Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Reaches four times Thursday

Rushing went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, three total runs and four total RBI against San Diego in a 12-7 victory Thursday.

Los Angeles fell behind 6-0 before Rushing kicked off a comeback with a two-run homer to center field in the second inning. The young backstop added a sacrifice fly in the sixth frame and an RBI single in the eighth to round out his third four-hit performance of the campaign. Rushing has been holding down the fort behind the plate since Will Smith (neck) last played June 5. Over 20 contests in Smith's absence, Rushing is batting .258 with three homers, five doubles, 11 runs and 11 RBI.
