The Nationals selected Pineda's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

Pineda began the season playing in High-A and quickly ascended through the Nationals' farm system. Now, the 22-year-old backstop will play in the majors for the first time in his young career. He will almost certainly be used as a depth piece behind the dish for as long as Keibert Ruiz (groin) remains on the injured list

Stallings is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Stallings will get a breather after going 3-for-7 with a home run over the last two games. Nick Fortes will take his spot behind the dish and bat fifth.

Bart is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

Bart went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the first game of Thursday's twin bill against the Brewers before taking a seat for the nightcap, and he'll remain on the bench for Friday's series opener in Chicago. Austin Wynns will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

McCann is not in Friday's lineup against the Marlins.

McCann has a .522 OPS in 2022, the worst performance of his career. Tomas Nido will start at catcher in his place Friday and bat ninth.

Narvaez isn't starting the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Giants.

Narvaez is getting a breather after he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Thursday's matinee. Victor Caratini will start behind the plate and bat seventh.

Ruiz was sent to the hospital due to swollen testicles after leaving Thursday's game against the Cardinals in the bottom of the sixth inning, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Ruiz was hit in the groin by a foul ball in the bottom of the second inning Thursday and appeared to be in considerable pain, but he was able to initially remain in the contest. He went 1-for-3 but was ultimately replaced defensively in the bottom of the sixth inning and sent to the hospital due to swelling. Ruiz is expected to travel back to Washington with the team, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be forced to miss additional time.

Contreras (ankle) underwent an MRI on Wednesday that didn't reveal anything too concerning, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Contreras' test results were consistent with an ankle sprain, and he's expected to rest for a few days prior to resuming baseball activities. It's possible the 30-year-old spends more than the minimum of 10 days on the injured list, but it doesn't appear as though he's dealing with a particularly significant injury.

Gomes isn't starting Thursday against Cincinnati.

Gomes went 4-for-4 during Wednesday's loss to the Reds, but he'll take a seat for Thursday's series finale. P.J. Higgins is starting behind the plate and batting sixth.

Stallings went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Phillies on Wednesday.

Stallings struck a solo homer to left field off Connor Brogdon in the ninth inning to pull Miami to within a run, though the comeback attempt ultimately fell short. Still, it was a positive performance for the backstop after he went 1-for-18 over his previous five games. The long ball was Stallings' first since Aug. 7 and just his fourth of the campaign after he slugged a career-best eight homers last season.

Gomes went 4-for-4 in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Reds.

All four of the hits were singles, and Gomes was unable to drive anyone in or come around to score. The veteran started Wednesday with Willson Contreras (ankle) landing on the injured list Tuesday. Gomes should continue to start while Contreras is out with P.J. Higgins able to serve in a reserve role, though Higgins started at first base Wednesday.
