  • Red Sox's Reese McGuire: Getting second straight start

McGuire will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Royals, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

McGuire will be rewarded with a second straight start to close out of the Red Sox's pre-All-Star-break schedule after he went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Saturday's 5-0 win. Though he's delivered two-hit performances in both of his last two starts, McGuire is still the clear No. 2 option at catcher behind Connor Wong, who holds a 204-point edge in OPS (.812 to .608) on the season.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Getting rest Sunday

Wong is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Wong will get two straight days off to close out the Red Sox's pre-All-Star-break schedule, as Reese McGuire gets another nod behind the plate in the series finale. Despite his limited usage this weekend, Wong remains entrenched atop the depth chart at catcher after producing a .309 batting average and .812 OPS through 269 plate appearances on the season.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Hits three-run homer in win

Wells went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Orioles.

Wells put the Yankees up 4-0 in the first inning with a three-run homer off Grayson Rodriguez. The catcher has now homered three times in July while continuing to see consistent playing time. On the season, he is hitting .220 with six home runs, 20 RBI and 24 runs scored across 190 plate appearances.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: On bench again

Jansen is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Jansen will yield to Alejandro Kirk behind the dish for the third time in four games, with Kirk batting sixth Saturday. Jansen has been working through a slump, but he appears to be turning the corner, reaching safely six times in his last two starts.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Late entry into starting nine

Jeffers will catch and bat third Saturday against San Francisco.

Jeffers was initially slated for a day off but will enter the lineup in the wake of Carlos Correa's (heel) late scratch. As part of the lineup shuffle, Christian Vazquez will play third base and Matt Wallner will DH. Jeffers owns an .804 OPS with 14 home runs across 289 plate appearances this season.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

    Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Idle Saturday

Jeffers isn't in the Twins' lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants.

Jeffers has gone 8-for-19 with a homer and five RBI over his last five games, but he'll sit down Saturday as he continues to split time behind the plate evenly with Christian Vazquez.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: In Saturday's lineup

Perez (cramps) will serve as Kansas City's designated hitter and bat fourth Saturday against the Red Sox.

Perez had to leave Friday's contest in the eighth inning due to cramping, but he seems to be feeling well enough to hit Saturday while Freddy Fermin starts behind the dish. Perez is currently enjoying a six-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 8-for-23 with two homers and seven RBI.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Getting breather Saturday

Wong isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Wong went 0-for-4 with a strikeout during a loss in Friday's series opener, and he'll now take a seat after making five consecutive starts. In his place, Reese McGuire will start behind the plate and bat eighth.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Plates pair in Friday's win

Langeliers went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles in a win over the Phillies on Friday.

The backstop came through with two clutch knocks, driving home Miguel Andujar in the third and extending a one-run lead in the fifth with another single that plated Max Schuemann. Langeliers has now hit the 50-RBI mark for the season, and Friday's game was his sixth straight with at least one RBI. The 26-year-old has a trio of multi-hit efforts in that span, along with a .462 average with runners on base.

  • Korey Lee C | CHW
