Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Giants' Matt Chapman: Scores twice in return
Chapman went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a hit-by-pitch in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Athletics.
Chapman returned to game action after being placed on the 10-day injured list June 10 due to a sprained right hand. The veteran third baseman was plunked in the first inning before coming around to score. He singled in the third, leading to another run. Chapman is slashing .245/.365/.451 with 37 runs scored, 30 RBI, 12 home runs and seven stolen bases across 277 plate appearances this season.

Sergio Alcantara 2B | ARI
Giants' Sergio Alcantara: Designated for assignment
The Giants designated Alcantara for assignment Saturday.
Alcantara went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Friday in his first MLB game since 2022, but his time with the Giants will be short-lived now that Matt Chapman (hand) is back from the IL. Alcantara owns a .571 OPS through 256 plate appearances in Triple-A and will most likely pass through waivers unclaimed.

Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Giants' Matt Chapman: Officially activated
The Giants reinstated Chapman (hand) from the injured list Saturday.
After going 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored during a tune-up game at Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Chapman will return to the Giants' lineup Saturday as the cleanup hitter. Prior to getting injured, the 32-year-old third baseman had gone 15-for-38 with three homers, five RBI and seven runs scored in his last 11 games.

Nolan Arenado 3B | STL
Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Scratched from lineup
Arenado was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's game versus the Cubs due to a right shoulder impingement, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Arenado missed two games earlier this week due to a sprained finger, but a new shoulder issue will hold him out of Saturday's contest. The Cardinals are labeling him as day-to-day for now and will instead start Thomas Saggese at third base against Chicago.

Marcelo Mayer SS | BOS
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Beginning on bench Saturday
Mayer is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus Washington, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Mayer had started four straight games after coming off the bereavement list Monday, but he'll get at least a partial rest day Saturday against Nationals lefty Mitchell Parker. With Mayer out of the lineup, Nate Eaton is starting at third base and batting leadoff while Romy Gonzalez is playing second base.

Connor Norby 2B | MIA
Marlins' Connor Norby: Getting breather Saturday
Norby isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Milwaukee.
After going 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's series opener, Norby will step out of the starting nine Saturday while Javier Sanoja starts at the hot corner and bats third.

Brett Baty 3B | NYM
Mets' Brett Baty: Resting Saturday
Baty isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.
Baty will get a breather Saturday after going 2-for-4 with a home run in Friday's series opener. His absence will give Jeff McNeil a start at second base, opening up center field for Tyrone Taylor.

Connor Norby 2B | MIA
Marlins' Connor Norby: Swats fifth homer
Norby went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Brewers.
The third baseman took Quinn Priester deep in the fourth inning, snapping a 13-game homer drought for Norby and giving him his fifth long ball of the season. He's had trouble building much momentum at the plate after getting a belated start to the campaign due to an oblique injury he suffered in spring training. Since the beginning of June, Norby's slashing just .204/.262/.286 with two homers, three steals, eight RBI and 11 runs in 28 contests.

Santiago Espinal 3B | CIN
Reds' Santiago Espinal: Draws start at second base Friday
Espinal started at second base and went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 9-6 win over Philadelphia.
Espinal, who was a prominent member of the third-base rotation while Noelvi Marte was on the 10-day injured list, was moved off the hot corner Friday with Marte's return. He drew the start at second base while Matt McLain served as the Reds' designated hitter, but Espinal's inclusion in the lineup was likely a byproduct of the Phillies sending a lefty starter (Jesus Luzardo) to the hill. The right-handed-hitting Espinal isn't expected to see regular playing time versus righties now that Marte is back in the fold.

Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN
Reds' Noelvi Marte: Hitless in return
Marte went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in Friday's 9-6 win over the Phillies.
Marte was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday and started at third base. He's expected to be the primary starter at the hot corner, but manager Terry Francona could occasionally use the position to get at-bats for others.
