Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Moves up to majors

The Tigers selected Kreidler's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Kreidler will be on the bench for Thursday's series finale against the Mariners, but he's expected to start Friday against the Royals and could eventually challenge Willi Castro for the primary gig at second base while Jonathan Schoop (ankle) is on the shelf. Over 250 plate appearances with Toledo this season, Kreidler slashed .213/.352/.411 with eight home runs and 15 stolen bases. In addition to seeing time at the keystone, the 24-year-old Kreidler also picked up reps at shortstop and third base.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Drives in three

Machado went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI on Wednesday against the Giants.

Machado powered the Padres' offense, with the majority of his production coming on a ground-rule double in the fifth inning that drove in a pair. He's now riding a six-game hitting streak, during which he's hit .480 with two homers, nine RBI and six runs scored. For the season, Machado owns a .306/.374/.536 line across 522 plate appearances.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Homers in extra-innings win

Arenado went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run and a double in Wednesday's extra-innings victory over the Reds.

Arenado launched a two-run blast off Mike Minor in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 2-2. He later added a double in his next at-bat in the sixth frame. The long ball was his 36th of the year and third in his last seven games. The third baseman has now recorded at least one hit in 13 of his last 15 games, batting .377 with three homers, eight doubles, 16 RBI, six runs and a stolen base over that stretch.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Mariners' Abraham Toro: Two-run shot in victory

Toro went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's victory versus Detroit.

Toro singled in the second inning before he later took Alex Lange deep for a two-run shot in the top of the seventh. The homer was his ninth of the year and he has now gone 3-for-7 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored over his first two games back in the majors after being recalled Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Extends hitting streak

Candelario went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Mariners.

Candelario has largely struggled this season, though he is now riding a six-game hitting streak, which has boosted his season batting average above .200. That's not saying a ton, though perhaps Candelario could deliver some fantasy value over the final month of the season even if his overall numbers are down from 2021.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Two-run homer in win

Suarez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's victory over the Tigers.

Suarez took Tyler Alexander deep for a two-run blast in the top of the first frame, driving in teammate Julio Rodriguez in the process. The long ball was his 25th of the season and sixth in his last 12 games. Suarez finished August on a hot streak, batting .310 with six home runs, 14 RBI and nine runs scored over the last 12 contests of the month.

  • Ramon Urias 3B | STL

Orioles' Ramon Urias: Two-run homer in win

Urias went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and three RBI in Wednesday's victory over the Guardians.

Urias walked with the bases loaded in the top of the third frame, driving in Rougned Odor from third base. He later added a two-run homer off Eli Morgan in the eighth inning, his 15th of the season. Urias will finish the month of August having hit .221 with four home runs, 14 RBI, 11 runs scored and a stolen base over 95 at-bats in 27 games during the month.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Homers in debut

Henderson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Guardians.

Henderson took Triston McKenzie deep for his first major-league homer in the top of the fourth inning, extending the team's lead to 2-0. The 21-year-old also added a single later in the contest. Henderson is expected to play multiple positions in the infield and should be in the lineup on an everyday basis moving forward.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Suffers torn UCL in thumb

Baty will undergo surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right thumb Thursday and was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 29.

The 22-year-old sat out the past couple days after suffering the injury against the Rockies over the weekend, and he may now be sidelined for the rest of the regular season. A standard recovery timeline for this type of procedure is about five weeks, so if all goes well in his recovery, Baty could be ready for game action early in the playoffs.

  • Ryan Kreidler CF | MIN

    Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Call-up imminent

The Tigers will select Kreidler's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Kreidler is among the Tigers' top prospects, and he'll join the major-league club once active rosters expand to 28 players Thursday. The 24-year-old has had a slight decrease in production at Toledo this year, slashing .218/.359/.421 with eight homers, 29 runs, 22 RBI and 15 stolen bases over 55 games in 2022. However, Kreidler should have a chance to carve out big-league at-bats over the final month of the season, especially while Jonathan Schoop (ankle) remains sidelined.
