Reds' Matt Reynolds: Three hits in defeat

Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored in a loss to St. Louis in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Reynolds had been dreadful in his last 13 games prior to this one, slashing .143/.211/.171 over 38 plate appearances dating back before his recent hip injury. The 31-year-old is extremely versatile, having spent time at every position except pitcher and catcher this season, though his lack of consistency at the plate limits his effectiveness.

  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

White Sox's Jake Burger: Ramps up hitting program

Burger (wrist) ramped up his hitting program Friday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Burger broke his left wrist when he was hit by a pitch while playing for Triple-A Charlotte in late August. He still has time to build back up before the end of the regular season, though he's running out of time to make much of an impact.

  • Edmundo Sosa 2B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Season in jeopardy

Sosa is dealing with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, which could end his season, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

The Phillies acquired Sosa as a defense-first utility man at the deadline, but he's been better than advertised at the plate in limited action, slashing .315/.345/.593 across 59 plate appearances. Yairo Munoz was recalled Friday to fill his utility role and now seemingly has a path to remain on the roster the rest of the way.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Out with broken fingertip

Suarez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a small fracture in the tip of his right index finger, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Suarez's initial X-rays were inconclusive after he left Friday's game against the Angels due to the injury, but a fracture has since been found. The Mariners believe he may be able to return as a designated hitter after the minimum 10 days, per Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times, but it may take longer until he's able to throw. Abraham Toro starts at third base Saturday against the Angels in his absence, while Dylan Moore (oblique) was activated off the injured list to take Suarez's place on the roster.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Not in Saturday's lineup

Suarez (finger) isn't starting Saturday against the Angels.

Suarez sustained an injury to his right index finger while fielding a ground ball during Friday's series opener against the Angels, and he underwent X-rays that were inconclusive. He'll take a seat for at least one game while Abraham Toro starts at the hot corner and bats ninth.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Still not starting

Newman (undisclosed) isn't starting Saturday against the Mets.

Newman exited Wednesday's game against the Reds with an apparent injury and will remain out of the lineup for a third consecutive game. Whether he's available off the bench Saturday remains to be seen.

  • Ryan Kreidler 3B | MIN

Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Added to Saturday's lineup

Kreidler was added to the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.

Kreidler was slated to get a day off Saturday, but he'll start at shortstop and bat seventh since Javier Baez (undisclosed) was scratched. Kreidler has hit just .189 with a home run, a double, four runs and two RBI over 11 games this month.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Yankees' Josh Donaldson: Homers, drives in three

Donaldson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two additional RBI in a 7-6 loss to the Brewers on Friday.

Donaldson's game-tying homer off Taylor Rogers in the top of the ninth was his 14th long ball of the season. The veteran third baseman is now slashing .212/.325/.394 with two home runs over 33 at-bats in September.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Sitting Saturday

Candelario will be on the bench Saturday against the White Sox.

Candelario has gone hitless in six of his nine games thus far in September while striking out at a 35.3 percent clip. Harold Castro will start at the hot corner Saturday.

  • Ryan Kreidler 3B | MIN

Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Takes seat Saturday

Kreidler isn't starting Saturday against the White Sox.

Kreidler went 0-for-7 with a run and three strikeouts over the last two matchups and will head to the bench for the second time in the last four games. Harold Castro is starting at third base and batting cleanup.
