Manny Machado 3B | SD
Padres' Manny Machado: Riding pine Monday
Machado isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against San Francisco.
The 30-year-old slugger will get a day off after the Padres officially clinched a playoff spot Sunday. Brandon Drury will move to third base in his absence, moving Josh Bell into first base and opening up a chance for Brandon Dixon to start as San Diego's designated hitter, batting ninth.

Jake Burger 1B | TEX
White Sox's Jake Burger: Makes late return at Triple-A
Burger (wrist) was reinstated from Triple-A Charlotte's 7-day injured list Sept. 23 and went 5-for-26 with a triple and three runs over the club's final six games of the season.
Burger suffered a non-displaced left wrist fracture in late August, but he was able to make his return to action after about a month-long absence. Unless the White Sox are in need of another position player over the final two days of the regular season, Burger will rest up at home before beginning offseason workouts. Over his 183 plate appearances with Chicago earlier this season, the 26-year-old hit .250 with eight home runs and 26 RBI.

Jean Segura 3B | CLE
Phillies' Jean Segura: Racking up runs
Segura went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Nationals.
He's now crossed home four times in the last two days alone after scoring just twice over the Phillies' final 11 contests of September. Segura will be taking a five-game hitting streak into Monday's game against the Astros. He's starting at second base and batting eighth in the series opener.

Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA
Angels' Anthony Rendon: Rejoins active roster
Rendon (suspension) was reinstated to the active roster Monday.
Rendon underwent wrist surgery in June and appeared likely to miss the remainder of the season, but he was reinstated from the 60-day IL on Wednesday and served his five-game suspension over the weekend. The 32-year-old will be available for the Angels during their three-game series in Oakland to close out the regular season.

Jace Peterson SS | ARI
Brewers' Jace Peterson: Sitting versus lefty
Peterson isn't in the starting lineup Monday against Arizona.
The lefty-hitting Peterson will take a seat Monday, as the lefty-throwing Tommy Henry will begin the game on the mound for the Diamondbacks. Mike Brosseau will start at the hot corner instead and bat leadoff for Milwaukee.
-
Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Sitting again Monday
Wisdom is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Cincinnati.
Wisdom is riding pine for the second game in a row after he recently wrapped up a stretch of eight consecutive starts in which he hit .179 with a 45.2 percent strikeout rate. After a breakthrough 2021 campaign, Wisdom has seen his OPS plummet nearly 100 points in 2022, all the way down to .730. He's not a lock to open the 2023 season in an everyday role.
-
Jordan Groshans 3B | ATL
Marlins' Jordan Groshans: Moves into utility role
Groshans is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Groshans started in six of the Marlins' past seven games at third base and went 6-for-23 with no extra-base hits, one walk and three runs. Now that Joey Wendle is healthy again to close out the season, Groshans may handle more of a utility role during the Marlins' three-game series with Atlanta.
-
Brian Anderson RF | ATL
Marlins' Brian Anderson: Takes seat Monday
Anderson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
While moving between right field and designated hitter, Anderson picked up starts in eight of Miami's last nine games while posting a .598 OPS. He'll get a breather for Monday's series opener after an 0-for-5, three-strikeout showing in Sunday's 4-3 win over Milwaukee in 12 innings.
-
Taylor Walls SS | TB
Rays' Taylor Walls: Won't start Monday
Walls is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The newly recalled Vidal Brujan will get a start at the keystone while Walls rests after making three straight starts out of the middle infield. With Brandon Lowe (back) done for the season, Walls is poised to serve as the Rays' primary second baseman for what's left of the regular season and for the duration of Tampa Bay's playoff run.

Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU
Rays' Isaac Paredes: Filling in for Diaz
Paredes will start at third base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
He'll stick in the lineup for the 11th time in 14 games while Yandy Diaz remains bothered by a sore left shoulder, an injury he aggravated in his return from an eight-game absence in Friday's win over the Astros. The Rays seem to be viewing Diaz as day-to-day as the team begins its final series of the regular season, so Paredes' hold on an everyday role could be tenuous.
